Many in the Republican Party idolize Atheist Ayn Rand, the author of “Atlas Shrugged” as a political and economic expert. In truth, Rand is an anti-Christian philosopher. In her novel, Rand promotes the elimination of Christianity as a way of eliminating government. Rand declared, "I want to be known as the greatest champion of reason and greatest enemy of religion." There are many influential Republicans who believe in Atheist Rand’s strange philosophy declaring that the rich should disregard the welfare of others.
According to Rand and a number of delusional Republican leaders, it is the rich who are true job producers and be permitted to function free of government and taxes supporting the poor, as well as the elderly and men, women and children who are or may become disabled and may die without healthcare. For a number of Republicans, selfishness and abandoning Americans who go to bed hungry, are homeless, or needing healthcare are courageous virtues.
To the contrary, The Bible tells us that God assists those who make profits and it is God who demands that they offer concern for their brothers’ and sisters’ health and well-being. Instead of viewing the poor as burdens, “We the People” are accountable to take action helping our poor, our oppressed and our vulnerable men, women and children. Moreover, the tyranny of Republican leaders including Repbublican governors view public employees and unions as burdens to abolish rather than assets to our communities.
However, many religious leaders, including Christian and Jewish clergy are speaking up against cutting a budget that begins by eliminating public employees’ collective bargaining. The Courier quoted clergy saying that “this opening round of budget-cutting that could trim state programs for the needy, including food, prescriptions and child-care aid”. Many religious leaders are anxious because costs of Republicans trimming funding for the disadvantaged will place enormous burdens on the shoulders of religious institutions. Churches, other religious institutions and individuals cannot support those in need of help alone. Rather than condemn government, as Americans, we need to support and be proud of our government assisting those in genuine need.
