To: The Admins at the New York State Group, 'The New York Kossacks,' here on DKos.
A proposal or three...
One, it wouldn't hurt if we had a Statewide "Convention" twice a year to meet and greet the progressives here in this NY Group, as well as a raison d'etre to drag nooobs to the Convention to get them plugged in to Netroots New York. Face to face meet and greets with movers and shakers can only be a good thing, and helps get the organizing thing cooking. Gets us all on the same page.
I propose they be held in April and October to avoid winter travel and summer vacations.
They just need be a one day affair on a Saturday until they grow to where we need two days. A Saturday in Albany or Poughkeepsie or Syracuse or Garden City. Or, hell, up here in NY-23! Okay, not.
Two, I've "created" a blog for us over on Blogger (blogspot) at: NY Kossacks to help us do just that.
Group Admins here will be added as Admins there and can admin the blog any way they so choose.
Three, I've been doing "Internet Radio" for over four years now, mostly as an "online DJ," but have also done Talk Radio and started 'DKos Community Radio' here on Daily Kos, and propose it wouldn't hurt to have our own "Netroots New York Radio Show" once a week for Group members that want to host it or be a co-host or guest on the show. There's no special software or hardware required, you can literally host the show on your cell phone! Or, even better, if you have Skype you can host the show from your Skype account. It's that simple. Anyone, including the state's movers and shakers, can call the show from their cell phone, so... we could interview some of those movers and shakers live "on the air." So, if anyone is interested in hosting or co-hosting the show, should this proposal move forward give me a shout. Once "on the air," we can start lining up guests for the show.
The tools here on DK4 are great, and there's no reason we can't get organized from Plattsburgh to Buffalo to Long Island City. Adding a convention every six months and a weekly radio show can't hurt in the process of getting everyone connected and giving nooobs a reason to get connected.
And, providing some infrastructure and reinforcement to what we do can only bring more fence sitters into the fold in my opinion.
2012 is here and here we are still with our thumbs up our butt. We have tools here. And people that know how to use them. And, still we wait for the word from on high. Well, I'm sick of waiting. It's time to roll!
