Like most Massachusetts Democrats, I was disappointed in the outcome of the last election. I didn’t support Martha Coakley in the primary but got behind her for the general election. I do have to admit though that I did not campaign for her; I haven’t actively campaigned for any candidate in several years due to personal reasons not pertinent to this diary.
I believe that this election is incredibly important to the future of Massachusetts and our country overall. As Democrats, we are facing an uphill battle this time around. Senator Brown has incumbency on his side and a formidable campaign fund. I think it’s paramount that we get organized around a smart, energetic leader and in my estimation that person is Setti Warren. I think he has the whole package: smart, charismatic, energetic, and a proven track record in government.
I first heard about Mayor Warren through the Facebook campaign “Draft Setti Warren”. I started reading the posts and doing some independent research. I liked what I read and heard.
What is it about Mayor Warren that compels me to offer my support so early? There are several reasons. The first, he’s a dedicated public servant who understands that government has a vital and necessary role to play in improving the quality of life for everyday Americans. Second, he has experience in successfully bringing people to together to solve tough and complex problems. Third, and most importantly, I believe he can win.
It’s important to me as a progressive democrat that we continue to push the center back to the left. Being a United States Senator is a serious responsibility normally but especially so in these difficult economic times. The task our country has before it can only be met by having smart, focused, dedicated people. People like Mayor Warren.
I made a mistake last election by assuming that because this is Massachusetts, we had a “safe” seat. One thing I can tell you about myself is while I do make mistakes, I seldom make the same mistake twice.
Take a look for yourself. Hopefully, you'll see what I see. Thanks for reading!
