The Daily Bucket is a place to catch your casual observations of the natural world and turn them into a valuable resource. Whether it's the first flowers of spring or that odd bug in your basement, don't be afraid to toss your thoughts into the bucket. Check here for a more complete description.
So lets skip over the worm tracks and get on with it.
Newly Fledged
Today we went up to Lake Chabot in San Leandro and Oakland, CA to check on some Great Blue Heron Nests. As soon as we got there we found a
newly fledged Red Breasted Nuthatch. It's tail ws so short it could barely prop itself up against the tree trunk the way that nuthatches do.
Not Yet Fledged
Our heron nest site contained at least 5 juvenile Great Blue Heronsin nests under the supervision of at least 6 adults.
Everyone else
We also saw Anna's Hummingbird, American Robin, Western Scrub Jay, Dark Eyed Junco, Acorn Woodpecker, Red Winged Black Bird, Bewick's Wren, Song Sparrow, Canada Geese with babies, Spotted Towhee, Turkey Vulture, Osprey, Cormorant sp., Gull sp., Swallow sp., Turkeys, and Morning Dove.
Bonus sightings, Turtle & Scorpion.
So what about you, what's doing in your area, and where is that?
