Just when conservatives were getting their hopes up because a recent WAPO poll showed Obama statistically tied with Romney, a breaking new poll has slammed that door shut.
What follows are the results from Quinnipiac which are similar to the last 14 polls that shows Obama ahead. In fact, the last poll that I could find other than the WAPO poll was Quinnipiac, November 2010 where they had Obama down to Romney by one point.
I’m also including some sad racial data that shows surprisingly high levels of racial and religious bigotry that is led by republicans. However we dems have work to do as well especially regarding Hispanics.
1. “If the 2012 election for President were being held today, and the candidates were - Barack Obama the Democrat and [blank] the Republican for whom would you vote?"
a. Obama 47% Romney 41%
b. Obama 48% Huntsman 34%
c. Obama 48% Pawlenty 36%
d. Obama 53% Palin 36%
2. Obama vs. Romney by demographics and party affiliation:
a. Independents: Obama 45/38%
b. Men: Obama 43/45%
c. Women: Obama 50/38%
d. Under 34: Obama 52/34%
e. 35-54: Obama 48-40%
f. 55+ Obama 44/46%
And, 17% of conservatives support Obama.
3. “If you honestly assessed yourself, thinking in general about – a [blank] president of the United States, is that something you'd be entirely comfortable with, somewhat comfortable, somewhat uncomfortable or entirely uncomfortable with?"
Entirely comfortable with a president with this religion:
a. Evangelical: All 43% Dems 30% Republicans 57%
b. Jewish: All 55% Dems 49% Republicans 60%
c. Catholic: All 60% Dems 57% Republicans 64%
d. Atheist: All 24% Dems 31% Republicans 12%
e. Muslim: All 21% Dem 29% Republican 11%
f. Mormon: All 35% Dem 28% Republican 38%
4. "If you honestly assessed yourself, thinking in general about – [this demographic] president of the United States, is that something you'd be entirely comfortable with, somewhat comfortable, somewhat uncomfortable or entirely uncomfortable with?"
Entirely comfortable with a president with this demographic:
a. Woman: All 68% Dems 69% Republicans 65%
b. Black: All 76% Dem 81% Republican 70%
c. Hispanic: All 63% Dem 65% Republican 59%
Obviously, as a hardcore Obama supporter I’m pleased with where he’s sitting. His strength among women and being statistically tied in the over 55 category tells us that older Americans are truly afraid of what the GOP is trying to do to Medicare.
It should also be noted that Quinnipiac has not traditionally been generous to Obama in their polls and definitely slant right OMI.
I was discouraged to read that 32% of Americans would “not” be comfortable with a woman as president. Wow, is it still 1950 in America? This poll also confirms that some of the GOP hatred of Obama has absolutely nothing to do with policy as 30% of them would be uncomfortable with “any” Black man in the white house.
I was caught off guard with the shocking results across the board on Hispanics. This is so sad when only 63% of all Americans would feel entirely comfortable with a Hispanic in the white house. I guess that explains why the GOP went nuts over Sonya Soto-mayor.
My final point relates to this strange finding on Mormons. Only 35% of Americans would be entirely comfortable with a Mormon in the big house. Wow. What does this mean for Romney? Will Bachman and Herman Cain attack his faith like Fox did to Obama?
Does it still matter this much in America about one’s race, gender or religion?
Sad.
12:30 PM PT: Even Better News for Obama in another breaking poll:
Reuters breaking poll:
"Obama leads all potential Republican challengers by double-digit margins, the poll showed. He is ahead of his closest Republican rival, former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney, by 13 percentage points -- 51 percent to 38 percent."
