Hi. My name is aravir, and I am the editor of the Readers and Book Lovers group series Cavalcade of Words. This is a writing series, in which Kossacks can exercise their creative skills within a defined format. To date, we are rotating three different exercises:
100 Words: Write upon a theme, using any style; entry must be precisely 100 words long.
5 Words: Write about whatever you like, using any style. No limitation on length.
(New This Week) A Sense of Place: Write about a place; any place. Could be home, a mountain lake, a supermarket checkout line, a demonstration, even a fictional place. No limitation on length or style. Describe the place using your senses, less vision.
More below the fold:
This is a highly creative community. I have been inspired to begin writing again, especially since DK4 came on line. For some reason, the ability to write multiple diaries has freed me from the delusion that a diary must be of paramount importance to be published. And that I can exercise my creative side without feeling self-conscious. I believe that I have published as many diaries since DK4 began than I did in the first 4+ years of my active participation in DK (5th anniversary as a registered user is coming up in 6 days).
One reason I have gotten involved in editing a couple of diary series for the Readers and Book Lovers group (first group to 1000 diaries) is that I have seen long-time lurkers start to get involved as diarists, since DK4 exited beta. Writing about reading, and just plain writing are powerful incentives for folks to open their wings and fly.
So, the reading and writing diary series I am involved in are essentially nectar. Of course, I have also had the privilege of reading what has been written by some of our better-known Kossacks, in a different context for them than usual.
Now, a call to arms: So far, only two writers have written submissions for A Sense of Place. We need more writers. I know you're out there. What's in it for you? Well, if your entry is chosen as best liked by last week's winning entrist, you will see your entry highlighted in next week's diary. You will also be given the opportunity to lead next week's writing exercise by choosing any 5 Words for next week's entrants to include in their entry. And you will choose your favorite out of next week's entries.
Here's the link to the diary whence to post your entry. Or, if you like, post it here.
The deadline for entries is usually Thursday noon. Because of NN, I am extending that deadline to Friday noon. Give it a shot; have fun with it.
As always, good writing.
