GOP nominee Mark Amodei pledges
"I'll never vote to raise Obama's debt limit"
Last week, Tom Donohue, the head of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce
said that his organization would work to defeat any Republican who blocked an increase in the debt limit.
Republicans immediately complained, and Donohue responded by saying he had just been joking, although the Chamber repeated its support for raising the debt limit.
Well, now Republicans have nominated a candidate for the special election in Nevada's second congressional district who is running on a pledge to oppose any increase whatsoever on the debt limit.
And that means we're about to find out if the Chamber was blowing smoke or not. If they and their allies in the community of corporate funders support the GOP nominee (Mark Amodei), then no Republicans will take them seriously on the debt limit. But if they sit this one out, or perhaps even support the Democrat, then maybe, just maybe, we'll get some movement from the GOP on the debt limit.
It will be fascinating to see what the Chamber decides to do.
