With a 33-29 vote in the NY State Senate, the contentious debate over the adoption of gay marriage in New York is finally history as the NY State Senate assembly has passed a bill allowing same sex marriage making New York the sixth State plus DC to adapt the law.
Today is indeed a great day for many who could not exercise the same rights as heterosexual couples in NY to finally have the ability to legally marry their loved ones restoring their civil rights to be treated fairly and equally in the eyes of the law.
Thank you the NY State Assembly, those who voted to make history on this important issue of equality.
Thank you Governor Cuomo for leading a hard fought behind close door negotiation to make this happen.
Thank you President Obama for orchestrating the NY Governor's election that paved the way for Governor Cuomo to run for the Governorship when there was deep concern about former Governor Paterson’s ability to hold on to the office of the Governorship in 2009.
I often wondered what the make up of the NY Senate Assembly would have been had it not been for the Obama Administration bold move to step into the mix.
I also wonder if NY would have elected as many democrats in the Assembly in 2009 that would have tipped the vote in favor of marriage equality had Governor Paterson run because as we know there was a lot of concerns...
President Obama had sent a request to Mr. Paterson that he withdraw from the New York governor’s race, fearing that Mr. Paterson cannot recover from his dismal political standing, according to two senior administration officials and a New York Democratic operative with direct knowledge of the situation.
The decision to ask Mr. Paterson to step aside was proposed by political advisers to Mr. Obama, but approved by the president himself, one of the administration officials said.
“Is there concern about the situation in New York? Absolutely,” the second administration official said Saturday evening. “Has that concern been conveyed to the governor? Yes.”
But Mr. Obama’s political team and other party leaders have grown increasingly worried that the governor’s unpopularity could drag down Democratic members of Congress in New York, as well as the Democratic-controlled Legislature, in next fall’s election.
Today indeed may have not been possible had it not been for the pressure the Obama Administration had put on Governer Paterson. So, yes...thank you Mr. President for seeing what some may not see ahead of the game.
However...this is what Rachel Maddow said in her coverage last night on MSNBC,
"President Obama is against what just happened."
On a day where we should be embracing and celebrating this decision, for Rachel to make this issue about the President is dumbfounding but what was surprising is that I never knew she is just a FUCKING LIAR!

A must see position of the President on Gay Marriage during the campaign trail when asked about
Transcript:
I would have supported and would continued to support a civil union that provides benefits that are available for a legally sanctioned marriage and then as I said it is up to religious denominations to make a determination as to whether they want to recognize that as marriage or not.
Question: On the ground of civil marriage, can you see to our community where that comes across as sounding like separate but equal?
Obama: When my parents got married in 1960-61, it would have been illegal for them to be married in a number of States in the south. So obviously, this is something I understand intimately and something I care about but i would also say this that if I was advising the civil rights movement back in 1961 about its approach to civil rights, I would have probably said, it is less important that we focus on anti-miscegenation law than focus on voting rights law, a non-discrimination employment law and all the legal rights that are confirmed by the State.
Now, it is not for me to suggest that you should not be troubled by this issues. I understand that and I am sympathetic to it. But, my job as President is going to be to make sure that the legal rights that has consequences on a day to day basis for loving same sex couples are all across the country, those rights are recognized and enforced by my White House and Justice Department.
Rewind to about 1 day ago at the NY fund raising:
NEW YORK — President Barack Obama did not explicitly endorse the New York state senate's bid to pass a gay marriage law at a Democratic fundraising gala in New York, sponsored by the gay and lesbian community.
"Right now. I understand there's a little debate going on here in New York about whether to join five other states and DC in allowing civil marriage for gay couples," Obama told the crowd, referring to the five US states and the District of Columbia where gay marriage is legal.
"New York is doing exactly what democracies are supposed to do. There's a debate; there's deliberation about what it means here in New York to treat people fairly in the eyes of the law," Obama said, however without explicitly adding his personal backing to the legislation's passage.
The question I ask the likes of Rachel is what the fuck does it mean when the President says...
gay couples deserve same rights as all
NEW YORK – President Barack Obama praised New York state lawmakers who were debating landmark legislation Thursday to legalize gay marriage, saying that's what democracy's all about. But the president stopped short of embracing same-sex marriage himself.
"I believe that gay couples deserve the same legal rights as every other couple in this country," the president said at a fundraiser in Manhattan, his first geared specifically to the gay community. Coincidentally, the long-planned event occurred just as lawmakers in Albany were debating legislation that would make New York the sixth state to legalize gay marriage.
The effort to alienate this President from the LGBTQ community and to belittle his effort for standing to pave the way for equality for all is unfuckingbelievable coming from some holier than thou sensationalists.
I just never thought Rachel was one.
Imagine for ones the consequences the President's action had he done anything close to what Dan Choi has done at the Netroots for all the name he gets from the birthers, teabaggers and even some progressives?
Oh well, OFA, the President and his Administration are in the side of equality for all one way or the other.
If we don't believe that, those of you who don't got issues.
