That's right, I am a bureaucrat suckling off the teat of public largesse. I work 40-60 hours per week for which I get a big, oversized check once a month. Out of that check I pay part of my medical, retirement, dental, taxes etc.
I get awesome benefits like 8 hours every month for sick leave. And it cumulates. That means if I feel well for a year, I have 12 whole days where I could be sick and I would still get my regular pay. In fact, if I saved it up for say 6 years, I could probably have back surgery and not go bankrupt. Suck that taxpayers!
I can't be fired without cause. That means if I am a fuck up, my boss must come to me and tell me exactly how I fucked up and warn me not to do it again. If I am a true fuck-up I will probably do it again and then he or she will be obligated to tell me a second time in writing, which goes in my file. If I am stupid enough to do it a third time, they begin adverse action to have me docked, demoted or fired depending on the type of screw-up. (This does not include things like workplace violence, which has a no tolerance policy and gets one fired IMMEDIATELY). So, I can't be fired without cause and documentation. Suck that taxpayers!
I have medical insurance. I pay $20 for doctor's visits, and $5 for each prescription (per month of pills if they are multi-month). My plan includes travel medicine, and full female medical (read abortion care). That's right, if I get sick I actually can afford to see a doctor. Eat that taxpayers!
If my job changes significantly my management has to give me a new duty statement to review and sign. If the duties are outside the scope of my civil service classification I can file for an out-of-class, which would be reviewed by the state personnel board. If I am right, I might even get a pay differential. If I am asked to work out of class, my supervisor can pay me for it and it can get added to my CV for when I try to promote.
Now, unlike the cushy old days, I can't travel or go to training or buy felt tip pens (too expensive) and I have one day per month of furlough, but my job is still easy street. Just 8-10 hours of trying to ensure that there is enough money in our transportation funds to keep paying contractors to build the roads and ensure that there is state match for federal dollars. This cycle the administration redirected 971 million in loans to pay debt service, so there is a billion less dollars in my account.
Yes, I have it good, so suck that you poor bastages who pay my check. I am a lazy State Worker.
