The Daily Kos Light Opera Company Project and its corresponding group is a work group to create a short musical theatre piece based on Daily Kos hate mail and famous pie fights to be performed in conjunction with (but not at this time as an official event of ) Netroots Nation 12 in Providence, RI. This group and its diaries will serve to solicit suggestions, coordinate talent and bring interested Kossacks together in creating what may be the first musical ever based on the contents of a blog.
If you missed it, the original diary on this subject can be found HERE. Our working title is "Hate Mail-A-Palooza: The Musical".

Update on the Light Opera Company Project
Since the original diary last week there has been quite some interest in this project. I meant to publish this diary earlier but was experiencing some connectivity issues. Thanks to Kossack and Company Member Horace Boothroyd III for taking the lead today and linking to our project in a comment in today's hate mail diary. Thanks, Horace!
Other developments: Kossack Impolitics has expressed a willingness to compose the libretto (that's the lyrics and book, for those who prefer less fancy-pants terms for, well, lyrics and book). I have heard some of his work and it's pretty off-the-charts hilarious. I will be composing the music, though the possibility of collaboration with other composers is not ruled out. Let's see how it develops. I have written several "camp" musicals such as this to quite some success: links to the reviews in a subsequent diary as my connectivity today is limited. I also want to thank all of the folks who offered their help and suggestions in last week's diary. Keep them coming.
Here's what we'll need:
Besides the brainstorming, we're going to need singers, technical and promotional talent. We're also going to need some coordination around the country to get the material rehearsed before NN 12. Those participating will have to be ready to pull this off with very little rehearsal in Providence. I want to thank Kossack legendmn for being willing to talk it up with the Men's chorus in Minneapolis, and any number of others who are jumping on the logistics bandwagon. You know who you are--and if you want to know too, go read the other diary. Especially the comments. That's where the talent is!
Other business
As this project progresses, I will be approaching the NN 12 organizers about seeing if we can get this on the official schedule. If not, it can be done as a "fringe" event. I have some contacts in Providence. The other thing we will need, of course is money. Not a lot, but enough to cover some very basic set and costume issues. I do not envision this as a set and costume heavy show, in fact quite the contrary: however, there are always incidental expenses surrounding even the most modest theatrical production. So, after we suss out exactly how this event will pan out, I will likely create the Max Bialystock Memorial Fund as a way for folks to contribute. This of course depends upon just what kind of event this will be. Way down the road, but just a fair warning that a couple of hundred bucks is going to have to come from somewhere, and it might as well come from the same place Max got it.....LOL.
So, thanks for reading. Suggestions are welcome in the comments. A number of you will be invited to join the working group and anyone who would like to join and does not get an invitation from me in the next week is free to KosMail me. I will add your name.
Thanks to all of you who have showed such enthusiasm for this project so far. I have a feeling we'll be peeing our pants laughing next June.
