Back in the early 2000's (and especially after 9/11), I remember debating with right-wingers about how a fascist infrastructure was being put in place using "national security" as a subterfuge (one of the usual excuses used by the typical would-be fascist).
I remember arguing with these creeps issues related to torture; they would always bring up the "time-bomb" scenario during their absurd defense of torture.
Anyways, back then I used to say that "one day we'll get up in the morning, have a cup a coffee, read the paper, or listen to the news on the radio, just like we've always had; except that we would have been living under a fascist state."
And the "funny" thing is that I thought it was going to take about ten years for that scenario to come true (but hoping it wouldn't). Well, (going out on a limb) I am now ready to "call it." It's official: Fascism has arrived to America.
Of course, for years many people have been warning about this, but as it usually happens in history, would-be fascists know that they can manipulate entire populations through fear. And so "they" have.
And the tactics to manipulate the population have been well-known through generations. As the worst fascist of all times pointed out: "Make the lie big, make it simple, keep saying it, and eventually they will believe it." He also said that "All propaganda has to be popular and has to accommodate itself to the comprehension of the least intelligent of those whom it seeks to reach. "
Hence, the effort by the neo-fascist movement to take over the entire media, which they accomplished, in order to use it as a propaganda machine. And the objective is simple: "By the skillful and sustained use of propaganda, one can make a people see even heaven as hell or an extremely wretched life as paradise."
This explains the passivity of the population, in the face of some of the most egregious criminal actions in history, at the highest levels, including the looting of the country, war crimes, corruption, collusion, and obstruction of justice.
Yes, there has been some sort of awakening and people are beginning to realize what's happening, but unfortunately the citizenry is catching up to these things five to ten years too late.
So while the entire system has moved on towards the implementation of a fascist state, the people still believe that they can rely on democratic institutions to bring about the changes needed.
So by 2008 the democratic system had already fallen and the neo-fascist state was being put in place, making the presidency some sort of a "symbolic position" meant to make people believe we still had a democracy. Let me clarify that I'm not necessarily attacking the President--I can't explain why he does what he does. I'm saying that the fascist state is now more powerful than the presidency.
And yet again, as we get ready for the 2012 elections, the fascist system is also getting ready focusing on disenfranchising millions of voters (Democrats) across the country, and using their ownership of the media as a propaganda tool to advance their interests in 2012.
I will not lose hope that somehow millions of people will "wake up" and realize what's happening, and take the necessary actions, but so far I'm a little pessimistic. I'm aware that there is a possibility that this nascent neo-fascist state that is now consolidating power may be unstoppable, and we would go back to what is the status quo in history: The subjugation, manipulation, exploitation, and enslavement of entire population by small and powerful ruling elites.
If by now, July 18, 2011, we would have been going through six months of massive protests across the country, rolling work stoppages, disruptions, millions of people protesting in Washington, D.C., forcing the President and his staff to have emergency meetings to deal with the unrest, I would think that there was a ray of hope we may be able to stop the takeover.
But the passivity and inaction is dumbfounding.
Whatever we do as a people, we need to understand that (1) The entire government has been taken over by the neo-fascist (including both political parties); (2) The entire mainstream media mainly serves as a propaganda machine of the neo-fascists; (3) We are on the verge of being enslaved if we don't take action now.
We are heading to a series of "shock-doctrine" type events in the coming weeks and months, meant to keep people in fear and confused, so the neo-fascist can consolidate power. How will we (freedom loving people) will react will make all the difference.
