The cycle of corporate rule in America began with the Supreme Court giving our elections over to big business with its infamous Citizens United ruling. Then, with Republicans cheering them on, the various Tea Parties sprang up, financed for the most part by conservative think tanks and assisted by Fox News Channel. In 2010 , with corporate millions backing them, "Teapublicans" took over the House and a near majority in the Senate.
Now we're faced with the reality of corporate rule: Republicans promised the voters a a jobs agenda, but once elected, have concentrated not on jobs or the economy, but on social issues: abortion, repealing health care reform and preventing immigration reform. They're also intent on destroying Medicare as we know it; reducing Medicaid benefits; weakening Social Security, the EPA and aid to the poor and unemployed; destroying union rights; and preventing any progress on establishing a Consumer Protection Agency. By all means, let's blame President Barack Obama for everything that's wrong in the world. It's so much easier than blaming ourselves.
Where are the jobs? In their determinations to see the president fail, Republicans are failing themselves and, more important, America. During the first two years of the president's tenure, filibuster after filibuster in the Senate caused legislation, which would have benefited the middle class to fail.
The middle class, not corporate America, is what has made America the greatest country in the world. The rob-the-poor-to-pay-the-rich philosophy is tragic, and we owe a great part of this tragedy to the American voters and their ignorance of the facts (thanks in good part to Fox News Channel and the media in general). Let's make the rich pay their fair share, and that includes our millionaire do-nothing lawmakers.
I've been sitting in the background reading diaries day after day. I thought it time to put to pen how I feel about the entire fiasco that this nation is in. I am saddened by the display of congressional members using the floors of the Senate and House as their bully pulpit to preach to their prospective choirs. Even worse, they blatantly lie without even batting an eye. If I'm not mistaken didn't they place their hands on the bible and take an oath? Did that not include not telling fucking lies? Sickened by it all.
I'm a baby boomer and doubt I will ever get social security. Screw health care. I'm fed up. Fed up with trying to have a civil debate with those on right. They are completely shut off from reality but would prefer to not trust their minds to think but instead let somebody else tell them what they should or should not think. Fuck that!
Thanks for reading.
