Republicans have 47 members in the Senate, so DeMint is under the impression that 4 Democratic votes would get him to 51 votes, thus passage of this bullshit effort.
Think about that for a minute. Jim DeMint thinks he can get legislation passed in the Senate with 51 votes. A simple majority. Cute, right?
This is the same Jim DeMint that tweeted this last week:

this?
Jim DeMint: I'll Filibuster Tax Cut Plan
Or this?
The founding members of the new [Tea Party] caucus – freshman Sens. Mike Lee (R-Utah) and Rand Paul (R-Ky.) and second-term Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) – are each considering whether to mount a filibuster to block an increase of the $14.3 trillion national debt ceiling.
Or this?
Why I May Filibuster New START
By Sen. Jim DeMint
In fact, Jim DeMint is among the most prolific filibusterers in the entire U.S. Senate.
Since 2009, Senator Jim DeMint, Republican from SC, has voted in favor of a filibuster 142 out of a total of 232 opportunities. This amounts to an obstruction record of 61.2%.
Only Sens. Risch and Johanns have a higher obstruction record, but they've only been in the Senate for two years.
So "Mr. 142 Filibusters" now thinks his bill only needs 51 votes to pass?
That's just adorable.
