Is Huffington Post really liberal? Since the AOL takeover (or whatever it was) there has been a not so subtle shift in tone: even more tabloid stories, inflammatory headlines, and free form bashing of Democrats and Progressives on the blogs and threads. The current main page illustrates: a picture of a forceful Willard Romney and a headline that blares "It's All Obama's Fault!" Meanwhile, the President speaking gets second billing.
On the threads, it's no longer possible to tell the difference between right wing trolls who are being paid by the GOP/Wall Street combine and those who are paid by HP to stir the pot and generate clicks. But the real change is in the kind of posts that get passed: anything goes when it comes to bashing the President, but HP seems to protect Republicans and select media figures, like Morning Joe, with the tenderness of a British nanny.
In the end, it's all part of the right wing noise machine: hit the left with everything all the time and don't stop until total victory is achieved. In addition to distracting the public, it's designed to demoralize the left.
It won't work, I hope, but the atmosphere, more than a year ahead of the election, is already so poisonous even canaries with spelunking gear are having a tough time breathing. At least this canary is.
