Do you buy food? Do you use roads? Do you breathe? Are you reading this right now? Then you're using tax dollars.
Kossacks, this is your invitation to join the Fair Share Challenge! Are you tired of millionaires who don't want to pay their fair share of taxes? What about tea baggers who say things like "Get your filthy government hands off my Medicare?" If you've had enough of that noise, this challenge is for you!
It's a simple idea, started by a friend of mine, who wanted to use the power of the blogosphere to illustrate how we all benefit from tax dollars. Read on below the fold...
The Fair Share Challenge has its own blog site now at http://www.fairsharechallenge.info/.
How it works is simple. You write a blog post in your own style, but you whenever you mention something you know is paid for or subsidized by tax dollars, you put it in boldfaced type. Then go to http://www.fairsharechallenge.info/ and share the link. (This is also a good way to promote your own blog!)
Fellow bloggers, we are the modern journalists -- whether we (or anyone else) like it or not. We tell the truth as we see it, because we're pulled to, not so much because we're paid to.
Though our differences are key to our collective wisdom, our similarities are greater: we all use roads, phones and the internet; we all breathe EPA-regulated air, which could be much worse; and we all know someone traumatized by the wars. That, too, is where your tax dollars go. None of us agrees with all of it, but our personal and professional survival always depends on a large part of it.
Please join the Fair Share Challenge from wherever you are in the blogosphere! And have fun with it!
