Democracy for America brings the fight to Republicans on their home turf. We are not letting them get away with it anymore. It's time for Democrats to stand up and fight.
We hear a lot of talk from Washington about compromise these days, and if you are anything like me, it makes me furious. Why should I have to compromise my values and the investments that I made for my future, so that millionaires and billionaires can get a free ride?
Maybe in Washington you have to tolerate fools who want to kill the American Dream, but Democracy for America members won’t let them get away with it out here in America.
The truth is Republicans in Congress aren’t giving an inch on their plan to destroy all of the investments that made America great. They are killing the American Dream by kicking the legs out from under everything that supports the middle class – education, Social Security and Medicare, and the infrastructure we need for jobs. That’s not what anyone voted for and we can’t let them slink away back to their in district fundraisers without answering for those votes.
That’s why we made this TV ad to put all of Washington on notice:
We really need all hands on deck for this. Can you kick in $5, $10, or $15 to help us keep this ad up nationally and run it in targeted Congressional districts around the country?
We can get ads up on the air in Allen West and David Rivera’s districts next week with your donations. They are both vulnerable Republicans who will have progressive Democrats opposing them in November 2012. They need to hear from us that they we will not allow them to kill the American Dream.
What you give today will help us get up on the air there in the next two weeks.
Last week we launched our Don’t Kill the Dream campaign with Van Jones. You can listen to the entire telephone town hall here. He said a lot of inspiring and insightful things on that call, but one thing really stuck out to me:
“We need to begin exerting influence where we have it . . . at the grassroots level. And, if you think that is not enough, ask the Tea Party.
. . .
The American Dream movement is an attempt to do for the majority of Americans what the Tea Party has done for the extreme fringe minority of Americans. The majority of Americans agree with you (on this call) that jobs and dealing with jobs right now is much more important than dealing with the long term deficit problem that we have. Certainly it’s more important than the phony manufactured default crisis that was used over the summer to threaten America. The super majority of Americans agree with you -- 60% of Americans – think that wealthy people should begin to pay a fair share of their taxes NOW.
. . .
But the super minority has hijacked the discussion.”
DFA members are not going to let that stand.
On our telephone town hall with Van Jones we asked DFA members to organize protests and rallies to hold Republicans accountable to their votes to kill the American Dream and they answered. We now have more than 100 events planned for the next two weeks. You can go to DontKilltheDream.com to join one of the events in your area.
Republicans are doing everything they can to avoid what happened last August. They know that they can’t go back to their constituents and admit that they just voted to end Medicare, slash education, and give more tax breaks to the wealthy and giant corporations. But, town halls or not, we want to make sure that while they are home for recess they know that they are not the majority.
Since they are not allowing for the public to be heard, that is all the more reason that we need to get the on the air with real stories from real people on what is going on out here. Those voices are not being heard in the media – or by Congress, Democrat or Republican.
We are putting Republicans –or anyone who votes to kill the American Dream -- on notice that they are about to join the ranks of the unemployed in November 2012 because of their radical agenda to dismantle every critical program that working families need while giving tax breaks to millionaires and billionaires.
Your help can get this ad on the air nationally and in critical districts in Florida, New Hampshire and Illinois. We would like to go to many more states – there are certainly plenty of deserving Republicans.
The more money we raise, the more places we can go. Please, give what you can today.
