Because ya'll don't listen.
I have grown increasingly weary of having opinions I never expressed and motives that I don't actually have being foisted on me by posters here at Daily Kos.
I posted a diary here yesterday questioning all of the folks who are so very proud of how "civil" everything is around here. My question was, what is the price that is paid for this type of "civility" based on the absence of different viewpoints, backgrounds, and perspectives?
I presented a very clear viewpoint on a very narrow issue.
And yet the comments were about who was banned, why they were banned, bullying, how I am doing a disservice to other black posters by expressing my opinion, how I am attempting to disrupt the current state of utopia currently being experienced on Daily Kos, and how I am just not bright enough to describe my own experiences without the interpretive assistance of the all knowing folk here.
Ya'll don't listen.
It is impossible to learn anything unless you first admit that you don't already know everything.
And the cherry on top? When grievances or concerns are presented to this community on issues of race, folks are so busy defending themselves and their motives, that they don't hear a word you say.
What did I hear echoed repeatedly? Daily Kos just could not be an echo chamber, because folks still disagree about stuff.
Well alrighty then. Case dismissed.
Now that the majority members of the blog have agreed that they have not been and could not be racially insensitive, and that they are in fact the victims because anyone even brought it up, we can now all go back to our blissful "civility" safe in the knowledge that we are right, because the other folks like us told us so.
And that is more than great with me.
