A few months ago, I started looking for a specialist in the medical field. I contacted my insurance company through their web page and got a list of doctors that contract with my insurance company. At that time the health care bill had just been signed and the doctors that I called said they were not taking any new patients at that time.

A couple of months ago I was having some issues with my health care insurance provider. Out of frustration, I wrote an email and sent it to both of my Senators, my Representative, and the insurance commissioner. Here are the responses I got back: Mike Kreidler, the state’s insurance commissioner, sent me an email with three different contact numbers that I could call. The email said the phone numbers should get me in contact with someone that could help me. Senator Murray sent back a form letter that had absolutely nothing to do with the reason I wrote. Senator Cantwell’s office never got back to me. Now for the incredible part: A lovely woman, Midge Peltonen, from my Representative, Jay Inslee’s (D-WA), office actually called me, as in a phone call.
I have written several times to my Senators and my Representative. The Senator’s responses were always form letters. Representative Inslee’s appeared to be a better quality of form letter since when I read it; it read as if it had been written in response to my actual email. Now I am not so sure it is a form letter. There might actually be someone in Jay Inslee’s office reading and responding to the emails they get. What a concept! Actually interacting with your constituents!
And remember, I got a phone call. An actual phone call. As you may notice I am a bit flabbergasted by Representative Inslee’s response.
So I answer the phone one day, (which in itself is a little weird since I don’t generally answer calls from phone numbers I don’t recognize), and on the line is Midge from Representative Inslee’s office. The first thing she said was to apologize for how long it took for her to get back to me, (it was about three days plus the weekend as I remember it). I answered with: “I expected to get a form letter, so just the fact that you called me at all is enough for me.”
A couple of days later, my insurance company called and they couldn’t do enough to help me.
So thanks to Representative Jay Inslee, (D-WA), for hiring such wonderful people like Midge, and Midge for her concern for me and my issues. I would also like to thank her for taking the time out of what I would imagine must be a busy schedule to address my concerns.
