Missouri's biggest whacko in Congress and fellow Tea Party Caucus member, Todd Akin, is getting exposed for the corrupt bastard that he is. He has said some whoppers, including the infamous "Pilgrims fled England to avoid Socialism" comment. I wish his Congressional District gets axed; unforunately, it won't happen because he is the chairman of the Subcommittee on Seapower and Expeditionary Forces. The St. Louis political media (with a few exceptions, such as Fired Up! Missouri!, Show-Me Progress, and the St. Louis Activist Hub) asskisses Akin. Let's hope that a Democrat defeats this soulless scumbag, as long as the Progressive/Liberal people of his district vote in droves come 2012.
Akin had a hissyfit about allowing LGBT people to serve openly just before DADT's repeal:
This moron thinks that Atheists/agnositics are not fit to fight for this country. Who the hell do you think you are, Mr. Biblethumper Akin?
And if he's really that worried about the fighting ability of atheists and agnostics, then why isn't he calling for the military to throw all such non-believers out of the services immediately? After all, if those damned non-Christian grunts and generals dragging us down into the quagmire that is Iraq, they need to join the homosexuals on the sidelines so that the "Men of God" can win the war for us.
He was caught joking about Lynching when's there nothing funny about it.
Yes, let's joke about lynching people. Lynching just doesn't get the respect it should in the comedic world. For a House Representative to even THINK this is funny, much less SAY it at a townhall I think illustrates the futility of trying to work with those people. They think their colleagues being KILLED is funny. What happened to "all life is sacred"? Even worse is the crowd APPLAUDING and LAUGHING with him.
Who could forget that his "Pilgrims left England to escape Socialism" momentright before Thanksgiving 2010?
Today, millions of Americans celebrate Thanksgiving with their families. To mark this holiday, Rep. Todd Akin (R-MO) took to the floor of the House of Representatives on Tuesday to explain its history. At one point, he opined, "It might be helpful to think back and say there’s more to Thanksgiving than the Pilgrims." He explained that they were "a group of people who were willing to change the system, to think of different ideas." Akin continued, "They came here with the idea that after trying socialism that it wasn’t going to work. They realized that it was unbiblical, that it was a form of theft, so they pitched socialism out. They learned that in the 1620s."
He did something similar back around the same time in 2009:
Todd Akin must not have had a lot going on last week. Thursday, speaking in an empty House chamber, Akin delivered a 50+ minute lecture on the history of the Pilgrims and Thanksgiving. Uploaded in 10 parts to his official YouTube channel, he spoke at length about the Pilgrims' journey, the First Thanksgiving and the evils of socialism. Specifically, Akin reflecting on how socialism was "unbiblical" and "in violation of God's law."
Akin was caught screwing up the Pledge of Allegiance at a November 2009 anti-PPACA rally.
Rep. Todd Akin (R-MO) had the honor of leading the anti-health care protesters on Capitol Hill today in the Pledge of Allegiance. To show his fervent devotion to the Pledge, he gave a short speech about the importance of the phrase "under God." However, when it came time to actually recite the Pledge, he was so excited about that one phrase that he forgot to say "indivisible" before "with liberty, and justice for all." The crowd seemed to remember the actual words though, which threw Akin a bit off track.
He has repeated the GOP/Teahadist talking points on Immigration:
AKIN: If before we had trouble with people coming here illegally, if we give them free health insurance and health coverage that’s going to make it more attractive for them to come. So if you don’t like illegal immigration, then you’re not going to like this bill either...
He wants to end food stamps, public schools, and more:
Yesterday on the House Floor, Todd Akin casually called for the end of all federal government in education, health care, food stamps and anything related to housing because those are communist ideas that will destroy us.
He, along with Blunt (now a Senator), Graves, and Emerson, hate allowing birthright citizenship:
Roy Blunt (R-07), Sam Graves (R-05), Todd Akin (R-02), Jo-Ann Emerson (R-08) are among the 130 Republicans who support changes in the 14th Amendment. If the GOP retakes the House they may actually get their way:
Ending birthright citizenship is no idle belief in the GOP caucus. Rather, Republicans have been pushing this idea for nearly two decades, introducing 28 separate bills to eliminate birthright citizenship since 1995.
Akin plays the "Democrats = Terrorists/Un-Americans" card:
Todd Akin asks the totally innocent and in-no-way-offensive question: are the Obama Administration and Congressional Democrats "putting al-Qaeda Ahead of the CIA?"
What makes Akin worry if Obama loves radical Islamist militants more than he loves America? The ACLU and National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL) are providing legal counsel to Guantanamo Bay detainees as part of what they call the "John Adams Project." (Adams, you may recall, defended British soldiers charged with killing Americans in the Boston Massacre.) Related to that service, there are reports that photographs of covert CIA officers were unlawfully provided to detainees at Guantanamo.
Akin talks about "throwing the 'Socialists' down the river":
Even more deranged nonsense from Akin, regarding that CIA is somehow linked to Health Care:
