Slowly but surely, change is not coming to the poor, the unemployed and the shrinking middle class. This is a rant... continue at your own risk
We were living the American Dream for most of our live, assuming that the gravy train would continue forever or at least till the day we died. I am talking about my life and what has occurred since our economy crashed.
I know that in terms of the rest of the country, we are still living in a house that is paid for and a check from the government that if it were just that money, we could eat in a darkened cold house but still sheltered as long as our property taxes were paid.
But what about this? Does it seem to other's like myself that the greedy corporations, especially the pharmaceutical industry has begun to take full advantage of the fact that drugs prescribed to the elderly have been on the rise and becoming more costly than half your check? Drugs necessary used to stay alive because you need these drugs to survive? They are on the very top of my shit list today because the price "Advair" a preventative medication for asthma patients is now 230.00 per month. This is the kind of drug that if you stop using it abrubtly you can be rushed to the hospital with an asthma attack at any time. And who has health insurance?
We are not poor enough to receive assistance for the drug. I don't know how poor you have to be, but if we fill this prescription, we can't eat for 2 weeks. Well who needs food anyway. My husband the recipient of this very expensive medication said he would rather die than pay the price.
Not that I want to say more about other corporations that are on the rip off rise, but whichever way you turn, someone is raising your interest rates, taxes on property are going up, electricity is out of control and being cold in Florida is becoming a way of life in the winter.
What about us? When will the focus be on the poor, the people living on what savings that they have until they are gone? You know talk is cheap and it seems to me that any programs set up for the benefits of the likes of my ilk will not take place till long after we are dead. Is that the point? I wish I knew.
