According to a report from TPM that's a few days old, Planned Parenthood offices in five states and D.C. have had an interesting visitor:
A man said he needed treatment for a sexually transmitted disease and then, once alone with a staff member, implied that he ran an interstate sex trafficking ring that involves minors and illegal immigrants.
Planned Parenthood believes that these visits are hoaxes, but has contacted both the FBI and Attorney General Eric Holder and asked them to investigate the claims.
The group that is believed to be behind this (if it does turn out to be a hoax) is Live Action, a anti-choice group run by a friend of James O'Keefe:
A spokeswoman for Planned Parenthood would not reveal the identity of the man, or men, who visited the clinics. The group does, however, suspect he has ties to Live Action, the pro-life, anti-Planned Parenthood group run by O'Keefe associate Lila Rose.
Live Action's mission is to stop abortion, and its favored tool is undercover videos which the group says proves Planned Parenthood's "willingness to repeatedly tell medically inaccurate misinformation," "willingness to repeatedly violate mandatory reporting laws for statutory rape" and "racism."
The AP was able to contact Lila Rose for comments, and her response was not exactly subtle:
She didn't confirm her involvement in the incidents, but said, "The story that speaks loudest will be in the evidence," she said. "I can't comment until we release the visual evidence."
That report is from January 25th, several days ago. Yesterday, the FBI began their investigation into the claims of a possible "sex trafficking ring". If such an organization does in fact exist, the FBI is on the case:
The FBI has begun investigating a series of incidents in which a man told Planned Parenthood clinics around the country that he was running an underage sex trafficking ring, according to a spokeswoman for Planned Parenthood.
The FBI has been interviewing people at the clinics -- a total of eight spread out over five states and D.C. -- over the past two days, the spokeswoman tells TPM. She said Planned Parenthood has been giving law enforcement all the information they have.
PP has done the right thing here, but it probably won't matter in the least. This appears to be almost certainly the next Acorn-style media shitstorm, and I thought I would give people here the heads-up. You would think after that bullshit Acorn incident, the Shirley Sherrod saga, and James O'Keefe getting arrested for attempting to tamper with a Congressman's phone that our media would be less likely to trust these creeps when they step forward with their "incriminating video". Sigh.
Look for hysterically reported selectively-edited footage of James O'Keefe in a Planned Parenthood office - This Breitbart production is coming soon to a Fox News station near you!
(A quick search turned up no hits on this site, but please let me know if someone else has covered this story)
Update: H/T to dougymi in the comments for this link to a Balloon-Juice post with more details.
