I was reading the NY Times a few minutes ago and I realized that Republican Senators that we would normally never stand a chance to unseat on our own are going to more than likely be defeated by the new trojan horse of the Republicans- the Tea Party itself.
Senator Dick Lugar of Indiana did not even have a democratic opposition candidate the last time he ran, he won with 87% of the states vote. He is a republican without doubt, his current problem is that he is a Ronald Reagan type Republican, he would make compromises with the Democratic Party and as we all know that is now enough to get a Republican defeated, just as Charlie Crist in Florida last year. In these times even Ronald Reagan could not win the Republican nomination, I am not sure George W. Bush could now get the nomination.
Republicans can try and claim they are not going to be controlled by the TEA Party, but all the evidence so far is showing us voters that Republican candidates must meet their litmus tests or they will be primaried, regardless of the cost to the Senate just as long as they can make their point as they did in Christine ODonnell, Joe Miller, Sharon Angle and Rand Paul, we can only hope they pick some more candidates of their caliber, we may get lucky and pick up some seats that otherwise would never be possible.
I hold no thoughts that a Democratic candidate will ever win in Utah, even if the Tea Party takes out Orin Hatch, a Republican is going to win, it's just that simple, it would mean hell has froze over if Utah went Democratic.
They are going after Olympia Snowe obviously, she has cast to many votes with bi-partisanship forethought, and the TEA Party can't have that, they need true conservatives that will vote the party line and go down with a sinking ship. Forget what is good for all Americans, the only thing that matters now is what is good for the TEA Party, they want all politicians to be in the Mitch McConnell model just vote NO, do not let President Obama have any wins, which also might mean that every American would win along with him, that part doesn't matter at this point.
It appears that the TEA Party would just as soon see American fail, just so they can show President Obama failing, forget how much damage is done to our nation along the way, they need to be so stoic that no matter what it costs them and their kids and grand kids just keep voting NO, until they can get Tea party Control of the House and the Senate and eventually the White House.
I feel sorry for Governor Romney this year, he stands no chance of getting the TEA Party endorsement for President, so any money he spends will be wasted. In any other year prior to this he would be the automatic nominee, in old fashioned Republican politics, it would be his turn, he lost the last time to John McCain and now it was to be his turn.
I am not sure who the TEA Party is going to endorse, I am hoping it is Sarah or Michelle they both have illusions that with the right circumstances and enough grass roots support they will "win" the Republican nomination with the Tea Party activists pushing them across the finish line in Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina and maybe even in Florida and the sad part is they may actually be able to pull it off.
Then the hard part comes into play the National Election where they will have to appeal to the independent voters, and they just can't do it, if they held rallies with stripper poles they could not win the independents, they are loons, both of them.
The more they talk, they just reinforce the fact, Sarah proved that with her tantrum over Tucson, instead of helping to heal the nation, she whined how she was harmed. Can we all say toast?
Michelle Bachmann hurt herself with Tea party response to the State of the Union Speech, and competing with that really dynamic Republican authorized speaker Paul Ryan, he was almost as inspiring as Governor Jindal was 2 years ago.
The republican party sure isn't my fathers republican party, let alone the Republican Party of Lincoln, but it does seem that the Tea Party wants candidates that would return this nation to pre-Republican times, prior to President Lincoln. They seem to have a fondness for the founding fathers and the original Constitution, I am not sure which part they liked, the part where slaves were only 3/5ths of a person. Maybe it was the part where Senators were picked by the state legislature instead of the voters of the state.
Maybe they want to give Texas back to Mexico and Alaska back to Russia, me I can't figure them out anymore, but they sure seemed determined to do whatever is necessary to make sure only TEA Party acceptable candidates make it on the Republican ticket in future elections.
I personally think it's sad that this new movement would not even allow Ronald Reagan to run for office if he was running in 2010 or 2012, he's not conservative enough.
Tea Party Gets Early Start on 2012 targets
Mr. Holwager argued that there is a disconnect between Tea Party supporters and many of their representatives in Washington. “Heartland America doesn’t feel the same way as people in the cities,” he said. “We do believe in religion, we go to church all the time, we shoot and fish, and love our families. Some of the time you wish folks in the cities would come live with us and see how we live.”
At the meeting this month, the Tea Party organizers signed a letter that “with deep gratitude and respect” asked Mr. Lugar to resign. With the rise of conservative awareness in America, “the emergence of the modern day Tea Party, and your own more social-liberal perception on issues, we find ourselves at odds,” they wrote.
Mr. Lugar won his last term with 87 percent of the vote after Democrats declined to challenge him. He says he intends to run aggressively, and not change his positions.
They summed it up best with this
“Some of this is a feeling that it’s time for new blood,” said Brendan Steinhauser, an organizer with FreedomWorks, a national group that has worked with Tea Party groups on several primary challenges.
I guess they could not come right out and say Dick Armey doesn't like these people so we are going after them. But the last time I looked Freedom Works is a Dick Armey astroturf group pretending to be a grass roots organization.
