I know your style. I'm sure you'll be in Arizona in full force before they even clean up the blood from the sidewalks, and you'll dish your usual crap. "If guns were outlawed, only criminals will have guns." I've even heard the defense that if everyone carried guns, the shooter wouldn't have had a chance. But he did, and now a nine year old with dreams, a judge who served his country well, and three others are dead, and a Congresswoman clings to her life, and somehow it's because in Arizona, nutjobs like this can get guns. Apparently, easily too. I know this first hand.

My cousin Carol went to college in Tempeh. She had just turned 21 years old that day and her best friend, Nicole, flew across the country in a surprise visit, to help my cousin celebrate. Earlier that day, my cousin had a conversation with another friend of hers about a guy she was dating. Carole warned her friend that the guy seemed like bad news. That there was something wrong with him, and she didn't trust him. The guy got wind of the conversation, and that night, when Carol and Nicole were coming home from celebrating, he waited for them in the parking lot. This very unstable man..with TWO guns in his possession. You know the rest of this story. I won't go into details, other than Carole and her best friend were killed, and then the maniac turned the gun on himself. So, I have to ask, Arizona: Aren't you a little concerned about how these people wind up with guns? I mean, isn't there supposed to be some kind of check before guns are dispensed or is it as easy as buying candy? I can't imagine what Carol's mother must be feeling right now. One always helps there's a learning lesson behind every tragedy, but sadly,no.
I may agree that Arizona is not the only state. Still, it feels so personal now, it just SEEMS that way. I'm sure it's all America. If such is the case, why do we always need such tragedies to rethink our love affair with firepower? We never learn.
Just so painful.
