Concerning the shooting of 9 people, including Rep Giffords, we Dem's should be careful about laying the blame for the killer's actions on his political beliefs. The vitriole is open to derision but blame can easily backfire on us--and backfire on this would be terrible. If we seem to blame the Tpub's for the killer's motivation and it turns out that his motivation was, let's say, a Beatle's CD then we will be seen as trying to make political points over a tragedy.
That should not happen. It would be unwise and as destructive as the killer's bullets.
What, I think, we should focus on is the killer's background and why he should never have been allowed to buy a gun. If AZ had enforced background checks then he might not have bought that gun.
Paul, George and Ringo agreed that they should never speak the name of John's assassin. To do so would only grant the killer's desire for fame. I suggest to us that we never do so, either. Call him 'the killer', 'Gifford's would-be executioner' or 'that Az gun-nut guy' but deny him that satisfaction which he so desperately seeks.
Nv pol's are already exercising both of these. Sen Reid said
"This is a sad day for our country, and acts of senseless violence such as this one affect us all," said Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev. "As a representative of a neighboring state, I have watched her career closely and admired her work on behalf of the state of Arizona."
Which is responsible. Sen Ensign, OTOH, chose to make it political. He said,
"Tragic events often translate into moments of contemplation, and I believe that we owe it to the victims of today's shooting to pause and reflect on the direction that we are moving as a country,"
Is he referring to our vitriolic state, of which Tpubs have been the major producer of, or is Ensign referring to the Socialist state he claims Pres Obama wants? This is carefully worded statement to take advantage of either interpretation. Yes, Sen Ensign is that s(l)ick. On This Week I heard 'The Dick' Army make a similarly political tinged statement (can't remember what he said, now, but it was slanted to politicize the shooting). Let them be seen for the ambulance chasers they are. There's plenty of time for outrage later if the shooter tells us his motivation was political.
