A local Occupy update:
I was surprised when I went downtown today to learn that the Occupy Denver rally has been going on for 10 days.
Surprised because according to my local news, there is no such thing as 'Occupy' anything.
What does make the news is that legislators - Democrats and Republicans - just voted to have 1.7 million dollars worth of gold re-plated on the Capitol's Dome.
It is the clearest example of what one 99 percenter described as a literal metaphor of the phrase
'let them eat cake'
Pictures and videos on the 10th night of Occupy Denver...
This is the General Assembly where they voted on the New York agenda for Occupy Wallstreet. Also, there was an issue of violence, as one organizer was assaulted by a civilian, and, glad to say the police were on the scene and helpful, unlike on the Brooklyn Bridge.
Good for Denver's Police - maybe they have learned from past mistakes..., or maybe the Occupy Denver movement is still being ignored... unlike New York, Boston and San Francisco.
Here is some video of some of the activists - or should I say, the 99% who took time to make a stand.
"Its the elite making policy on our lives, so they can make profit. It's wage slavery or starvation. People are sick of it, they are done - it's time to take our jobs back, our lives back"
"If you commit a crime, whether you are a cooperation or not is irrelevant. "
(me) You are talking about Denver paying a couple of million to put new gold on the roof of the Capitol?
(Yes)
We are unemployed, our schools suck.... Let's put some more gold on a building where a bunch of people who feel self important go in...
We have enough money to spend on 1 new jail and courthouse, 2 new jails and courthouses, in the last 5 years,
but we have no money for schools, for the homeless, the poor, for transportation?
Everything goes to the Government, and what do they give us back?
Bombs to bomb and kill other poor people in other countries,
and they are supposed to be our enemies...
Occupy Denver has been going strong, even on a late Sunday night, yet there is no coverage - maybe the news is not really for informing the 99%, so we will have to do it via the web.
