If I were to play "comandante" of the revolution, here's how I would roll... I would make four demands fully expecting for them to be met--or else. I would command the members of the nationwide protests to focus on these demands in a very organized, disciplined, and relentless fashion. We would occupy financial centers in the entire country, and the seat of government (Washington, D.C.) with a clear understanding that the uprising will not end until these demands are fully met.
I would not for one second think that meeting these demands is not possible. They would have to be met. I would have a plan in place to properly utilize the energy and collective power of the protest movement, knowing that as every day goes by, without a clear set of demands and expectations, the movement could eventually lose steam and fizzle out. I would know that time is of the essence.
We would plan a set of (peaceful and constitutionally-protected, but forceful actions), with the objective of putting an relentless amount of pressure on the government and the authorities until our demands are met.
We would start with occupation protests and marches every day. If there are no results, then we would escalate with rolling work stoppages focusing on sensitive industries across the country, and would eventually escalate to massive general strikes focused on stopping the entire system.
Demands:
1. Separation between government and corporation: Enact legislation to reverse Supreme Court's ruling on Citizens' United, which allows unlimited corporate money to be injected into the political system. All government agencies and officials must stop accepting any type of favors, or campaign contributions from lobbyists and corporations. A public campaign finance system must be implemented. Rescind corporate personhood.
2. Restore the rule of law: The rule of law is essential for the country to survive as a democratic Republic. Everybody knows that bankers stole trillions of dollars and they are walking around free. There should be full proper investigations of these crimes, and where there is probable cause of wrongdoing, there should be charges filed, and prosecutions. There should be severe civil penalties as well.
3. No more austerity measures for the citizenry: The current economic paradigm would work if we were dealing with a lawful system. We are not. The people of this country are not going to accept the current economic paradigm that dictates that we have to pay the consequences arising from the total looting of the financial system by criminals. Completely separate the faith of the looted banks and Wall Street, from the economic system. Most of the major banks are insolvent anyways... Take over these banks, break them down to size. Nationalize the entire system (even if temporarily). And print money and carefully infuse the economy with it to maintain economic and social stability.
4. Implement a massive stimulus work program: The government has been secretly giving criminal banks tens of trillions of dollars during the last 3 or 4 years. It's time for that to stop. Take about $5 trillion and use it to stimulate the economy with a massive work program to rebuild the infrastructure of the country.
That's it! I expect those four demands to be met, fully. I will, at this point, not talk about the environment, or student loans, or protecting wild-life, or carbon emissions, or any of other thousands of very important issues because I know that all of those problems have a genesis; a root. And that is the wholesale control of our government by powerful and corrupt corporate interests.
And therefore, that's where I'm going to focus my energy, and the energy of the protest movement, knowing that if instead of 4 key (root-level) demands, I come up with 24, or 30, or 50, then that lack of focus would ultimately undermine the (peaceful) revolution.
Ok, the clock is ticking... It's not that hard. Remove money corruption from our government; restore the rule of law by prosecuting (to the fullest extent of the law) the criminal banksters; implement monetary policy as to avoid any more austerity measures for the population; implement a $5 trillion stimulus/work program.
Once these things are done, then we'll go home, to work, and study, and live in peace and prosperity.
We're waiting... We are legion. Expect us.
