One of the most appalling and well-executed rhetorical pivots that Republican leadership in Congress has engaged in these past 3 years is the use of the phrase “Job Creator”. Gone are words like “millionaire”, “wealthy”, “rich” or “inherited”.
They have all been replaced with the mythical phrase of “job creator”. To hear Eric Cantor, John Boehner or Mitch McConnell tell it, the hedge fund billionaire on Wall Street is the same as the owner of a small business on Main Street with 6 employees.
We all know that’s nonsense. Cantor and company know it’s nonsense but they have been forced come up with the phrase “job creators” for a very simple reason:in overwhelming numbers Americans of every political and economic stripe favor rich people paying their fair share of taxes. The very constituents of Cantor, Boehner and McConnell all agree that Warren Buffet’s secretary should pay a lower tax rate than Buffet himself.
So you think it would be pretty easy for Republicans in Congress to get behind sensible tax reform that creates a modicum of fairness and makes those who make more than a million dollars a year to actually pay taxes at the same rate the rest of us do. After all they are doing better than ever while the rest of us are hurting.
But Cantor and friends can't do that. Why? Because their true constituents are on Wall Street and in the boardrooms of corporations across America that are actually shipping jobs overseas at an unprecedented rate while enjoying record profits.
And Cantor, Boehner and McConnell have no intentions of backing down from their defense of these mythical “job creators” or are actually "job destroyers". They will go to the wall to defend these millionaires and billionaires for one simple reason: Cantor and his colleagues would not have a job without them. These millionaires and billionaires may destroy jobs for working class Americans but they are very dedicated to creating jobs for their friends in Congress.
It’s time we remind these elected officials who is their real “job creator”.
Us.
Every voter in America is a “job creator” for whichever politician they place in office. It is time we remind our Congressmen and women who is responsible for THEIR jobs.
As voters we have the power to create jobs for elected officials who will actually represent their constituents.
As voters we have the power to create jobs for elected officials who understand that “job creators” reside on Main Street not Wall Street,
As voters we have the power to create jobs for elected officials who will stand with the 99% of us who work for a paycheck and only sell stocks when we have to choose between keeping our home and our 401K.
We are their "job creators". We are their boss. It’s time they start working for us.
