After taking yesterday off for my anniversary, it's back to work for me. If you're new to this series, go here to find out what it's about.
I figure that my 14th wedding anniversary is a good excuse to take a day off, so I did yesterday. After grabbing more groceries today, I settled in to do more work on the book series. I haven't received any responses from the book review blogs I sent free review copies to, but it's only been a day or two so I'm not going to start worrying just yet. I did get feedback from Amazon that they are going to be considering the Pilot Episode for their Amazon Kindle Singles section, which would be a huge boost and a lot more exposure if they decide to go through with it. Here's hoping!
Today, I've begun to plot out the entire first season despite not knowing yet if I'm going to be able to go forward with it. I'd rather be prepared so I can jump right in. I've only sold three copies of the Pilot Episode so far, but I've done next to no advertising or publicity, so it's too early to make up my mind on whether it's going to work or not. Once I start getting reviews on book blogs and find out whether or not I'll get in the Kindle Singles section Amazon, I'll have a better idea of where things are going. If I get good feedback in those reviews, I'll press forward with the publicity campaign and see about getting some coverage on a bigger scale, pushing a human interest element of me being a disabled writer writing about a disabled character.
For those of you that have read the free copies I put up, I would be very appreciative if you would let me know what you thought of the book, and even more appreciative if you could put up a review on Amazon. For those of you that haven't read it, yet, what are you waiting for? Go read it! It's free, you can find the links beginning of this series at the link I put up top of this diary. Don't worry about buying it for now, I just want as many people to read it as possible and let me know what they think.
For those of you that have read it and find yourself becoming a fan, here's a teaser of what's to come - the outline for the first season in its entirety!
2. MEPHISTOPHELES – estimated 84 pages of story
The Demon in Black is introduced in this episode, the first and so far only demon to completely integrate with their host body and have total control. Mephistopheles, however, is on nobody’s side, a true neutral party in the war between good and evil. Javier wants to recruit him, Ester wants information, and Sammy just wants to have a night out on the town. You can’t always get what you want.
3. RIPPER – estimated 84 pages of story
Following a string of killings identical to those of Jack the Ripper in Lake Havasu, Sammy and Ester take a working vacation to get to the bottom of it. Two young sisters still recovering from the death of their parents hold the key.
4. ELDER – estimated 84 pages of story
Still on vacation, Ester goes on a date with a guy she met in Lake Havasu, going out for what is supposed to be an enjoyable overnight trip on the lake in his sailboat. They make the wrong turn at the wrong time on the wrong tide, slipping into a cove that’s home to a long forgotten creature of the deep. Without Sammy to help her, Ester will have to rely on her date for assistance in getting out alive.
5. SHIFTER – estimated 84 pages of story
Ester and Sammy return home briefly before they travel north to the sleepy town of Williams, Arizona, where the yearly disappearance of a child has led one person to believe that a werewolf stalks the forest of Northern Arizona. A centuries old secret is revealed, and Ester learns more than she bargained for.
6. HEREDITARY – estimated 84 pages of story
Following revelations made in the last episode, it’s time for Ester and Javier to have their face to face meeting. Javier has some family secrets to tell, sending Ester and Sammy on a hunt for the truth. The truth, however, isn’t always the best thing to have. Is it all a setup by Javier to get her to do what he cannot?
7. INCUBUS – estimated 84 pages of story
Sammy gets the spotlight when Ester is called into the office for a week’s worth of work to seal the deal on a big security contract worth six figures. He returns to his favorite club to find an enigmatic new face dominating the social scene. He’ll have to dig deep to face the biggest danger he’s ever seen on his own once he realizes just what’s going on.
8. CONTRACT – estimated 84 pages of story
Ester approaches Mephistopheles about entering into a temporary contract, offering him short term faith in return for investments. A deal is struck, and Ester uses her newfound abilities to try to get to the bottom of just what Javier is plotting. She’ll have to keep her deal a secret not just from Sammy, but from Jacob, as well, when he comes to visit.
9. MAMMON – estimated 84 pages of story
Ester, Sammy and Jacob prepare for their showdown with Javier and his cohorts at Saguaro Hills Behavioral Health Center. Can three human demon hunters take on several demons and their human servants in the heart of their infernal lair? Mephistopheles has chosen a side, but which side will it be? The season finale answers it all!
All of that is subject to change, of course, from the order in which they are listed to the actual content of each episode and the title. The Pilot Episode was 81 pages of story and a total of 91 pages in length, after figuring in the copyright page, dedication, author's note, etc.. I'm hoping for it each following episode to be a little bit longer, somewhere between 80 to 90 pages so I can keep it just under the 30,000 word limit Amazon has for Kindle Singles. The Pilot Episode, for example, was 28,000 words.
So that's what I've been up to, today. I want to jump right in and start writing, but I know that right now I need to focus on building a readership. Hopefully I'll start to hear back on some of the reviews and can move forward with my publicity plans.
That's it for now!
