I actually had a wee bit of time in my schedule today to look at the latest & greatest in editorial cartoons, and I found a few faboo ones; take this one, for example! :D
Let's get historical! 1 event actually relates to a recent Countdown guest; on October 18, 1968, the United States Olympic Committee suspended two black athletes, Tommie Smith and John Carlos, for giving a "black power" salute as a protest during a victory ceremony in Mexico City. I tweeted this event to Mr. Keith, so I'm claiming credit if it gets used. ;D Mike Ditka is 72 today; yes, I'm bringing up the 1985 Bears! :D
And, in a local "this day in history" item, on this date in 1989, my fair city saw the earliest measurable (and then some!) snow fall ever; nearly 9" fell that day! I was a freshman in college, and, of course, nearly none of us had much cold weather stuff in our wardrobes. Thankfully, it didn't stick around long, but that day was a hoot.
Let's Countdown!
#5 "Occupy Day 32" AKA "Law and Order" AKA "Protest Veteran" - Occupy peeps in NYC are on the move - literally - to the county DA's office to try to persuade charges be filed against the white - shirted officer who punched a demonstrator & the white - shirted officer who trapped & maced 4 defenseless women. Bank of America turned a lovely $6.2 billion profit last quarter; I guess they'll be withdrawing that $5 debit fee, yes? ;D Nearly 60% of NY resident support Occupy efforts. 67% of respondents in the same poll don't exactly have warm & fuzzy feelings about Wall Street. OK, here's the Occupy story from today that REALLY got my goat; NYPD, etc. tried to shut down the medical tent set up in Zucotti Park. OK, not only deny protestors the right to protest peacefully and within the law, but, if they get sick or hurt (like the NYPD seems to like to do these days), they can't get medical help from the probable volunteers who set up the tent anyway. So, they'd then have to go to an ER. AND, once they go to an ER, the "usual suspects" would accuse them of leeching off the system or being free - loaders or something. CAN Y'ALL TELL THIS STORY GETS MY GOAT?! *&^%$#@! Intervention by Rev. Jesse Jackson prevailed. Atlanta's mayor extended the permit for Occupy peeps there. Felix Rivera - Pitre is the gay HIV + man the NYPD cole - cocked in that video; THEY are claiming he assaulted them. Well, I saw the video, and I have to agree with Keith's assessment; the NYPD is accusing this guy of throwing his face into their fist. He...was...sucker...punched. He was walking away from the cop, the cop turned him around, and the cop slugged him. The crowd was absolutely mortified and protected him the best they could. Rev. Jackson is in studio to chat Occupy with Keith. He pointed out that Occupy peeps are marching for the cops, too. Many businesses in the area have been wonderful about letting protestors use their facilities. Well, how 'bout THAT?! :D
#4 "Pricey Protest" AKA "First Amendment Fine!" - Some Occupy efforts in cities across the country are the attempted victims of petty local laws that impose fines instead of arresting people. You can be fined for being in a space & be fined for each person IN that space. CLASSY! *&^%$#@! Just guess which state began that practice this past weekend - the Show Me Your Papers State, boys & girls! Dallas participants were forced to leave, too, because they didn't have a $1 million insurance policy. Steve Barber is an Occupy Tucson organizer. Publicity is just a faboo thing at times; city planners are kind of not liking the egg on their face after all this came to light. ;D Ya' know, I'm actually surprised my fair city didn't try something like this; "Hoosiers" can be a damn petty cheap bunch. Occupy Cincinnati filed a federal suit after 200 citations at $100 each were filed.
#3 "Righting Off Occupy" AKA "Smearing Occupy" - So, a lovely Washington Post columnist had the following to say about Occupy efforts:
In the millions of pixels devoted to the radical Occupy Wall Streeters, virtually nothing has been said about its anti - Semitic elements.
Uh, from what bodily orifice did she pull THAT ONE from?! She cited an ad created by GOBP insiders. Well, gee, am I shocked - NOT! "Hate is Not an American Value"?! IS THAT AD SPARKING SERIOUS??!! Hate has been 1 of the most powerful forces of movement in this country as long as this country's been a country! SERIOUSLY???!!! Boss Limbaugh sees anti - Semitic people, too. And, the "usual suspects" are falling in line. Joshua Holland gets anti - Semite duty.
"Time Marches On!" - Well, Keith claimed "this day in history" was "weak." I wonder if John Carlos thinks so? Penguins are nesting & lifting rocks from penguin neighbors. A puppy is playing fetch with itself. Puppy's got NOTHING on my Daisy; she can open our bathroom door! I WANT THAT R2D2! Take it away from the damn kid if necessary!! :D
WPITW - The "World is Going to End" dude has now said the world will end Oct. 21. $hit! Can't it wait until after I get paid? Bat$hit Bachmann & Ed Rollins are having a pi$$ing contest. "Herb" Cain can't decide if he wants that big 'ol electric fence or not. And, how 'bout that appearance with Sheriff Joe?! How long has it been since Sheriff Joe allowed himself to be so close to a non - white person??!!
Richard Justice & Keith are chatting up the World Series; Keith thinks the Cards will win. As a Cubs fan, I'm obligated to hope that doesn't happen. Plus, there's that whole Tony LaRussa & Albert Puhols going to Lonesome Rhodes thing, but Mr. Albert went into a hitting slump after that! HOWEVER, that whole GWB & Bush family connection to the Texas Rangers makes my stomach clench. So, as usual, I will not give a rat's hiney hole about who wins.
