Jeremy Hooper over at Good As You blog keeps an eagle on the nefarious National Organization for Marriage, aka NOM.
His sharp eyes have spotted a doozy.
NOM launched a website devoted to repealing marriage equality in New Hampshire recently. Unfortunately, when they wanted to show large crowds of people rallying around a cause they all believed in, they couldn't use a photo of NOM's own poorly attended rallies. Oh no. That would be underwhelming.
So where did they get this image?
Follow me over the fold, if the headline didn't tip you off, plus some bad news out of New Hampshire today.
That's right, from an Obama rally held November 2, 2008 in Columbus, OH. It appeared in the Upper Arlington Progress Action website.
Not sure how the folks at Upper Arlington Progress Action feel about their image being swiped.
But, another photographer has a beef with NOM.
Seems NOM photo collaged a piece from a progressive-leaning photographer in Twin Cities, MN, who had this to say on Twitter: @FibonacciBlue
Gosh for such God-fearing Christian people, those folks over at National Organization for Marriage sure seem to have a problem following the 8th Commandment.
They stole music from John Mellencamp music.
They stole video from a gay blogger.
They stole an image from Reuters earlier this week.
Seems they need to go back to Sunday School, before the Baby Jesus cries.
Let's refresh the Exodus 20:15 for them, shall we?
Thou Shalt Not Steal.
Now, that isn't so hard is it? It's almost as easy as NOT getting gay married.
Unfortunately, it isn't all laughs on the marriage front, we got some bad news out of New Hampshire today. The GOP is busy taking their marching orders from National Organization for Marriage, a lawless, out of state special interest group. New Hampshire State House Legislative Committee voted to move forward with reversing the state's marriage equality. The vote is anticipated in January.
New Hampshire Legislative Committee Takes Step toward
Ending Popular Marriage Law
CONCORD – With great disregard for what more than 60% of voters want, the House Judiciary Committee today approved a legislative proposal sponsored by Rep. David Bates (R-Windham) that repeals New Hampshire’s popular marriage law. Today’s vote didn’t pass with even the majority necessary to override the governor’s veto, meaning this effort to undermine New Hampshire families lacks momentum as Republicans and Democrats are united in bipartisan opposition.
"The Bates proposal is bad for freedom and bad for families,” said Craig Stowell, Republican co-chair of Standing Up for New Hampshire Families. “There is no reason to overturn New Hampshire’s popular marriage law that simply protects all families and treats all loving couples equally. This isn't a so-called compromise and it completely ignores voters' wishes to leave this issue alone and get back to the real business of the state."
Earlier this month, the nonpartisan University of New Hampshire Survey Center released a poll showing fully 62% of Granite Staters oppose repealing the law, including 66% of Independents.
“Strong opponents of repealing same-sex marriage continue to outnumber strong proponents by more than 2 to 1,” said Andrew Smith, Director of the UNH Survey Center. Smith said the same thing in February when UNH released a poll with nearly identical results.
The Bates Amendment calls for a virtually meaningless contract between two people. It also increases burdens for New Hampshire businesses.
“We did not send lawmakers to Concord to revisit the marriage law,” said Stowell, a former Marine. “But a fringe group of lawmakers are squarely focused on taking away freedom and liberty from their constituents and fellow Granite Staters."
The bill as amended is expected to go to the full House for a vote in January.
Standing Up for New Hampshire Families is bipartisan group of citizens, business owners, people of faith, and civic leaders who oppose the repealing the state’s popular marriage law.
Michael Lavers from Boy In Bushwick blog obtained a comment from state Democratic Party Chairman Ray Buckley:
"It is astounding that Republican legislators would repeal New Hampshire's marriage equality law when not only do 60 percent of New Hampshire voters oppose the repeal, likely Republican presidential primary voters oppose repeal as well," New Hampshire Democratic Party Chair Ray Buckley told Boy in Bushwick after the committee's vote. "The out of state radical agenda of Speaker Bill O'Brien has already made this legislature the most unpopular in New Hampshire history, playing games with thousands of families in New Hampshire is certainly not a popular path to take."
Oh Republicans. Remember what happened last time made noises of trying to eliminate marriage equality? That's right,
those 500-some of people who showed up at the State House were wearing red to oppose your agenda.
Maybe you got confused and thought they were on your side. They aren't. They think you're being assholes. And our photos don't need to be faked to show our supporters.
