We have so many insightful and powerful diaries written here at Daily Kos. Our diaries inform, inflame, impassion, and even entertain. We Kossacks have strong voices and an even stronger will to be the change we wish to see in this country.
One of the richest, and perhaps most under-appreciated, areas of thought come in the form of comments attached to these diaries.
Here at Top Comments we strive to recognize and promote the talent of this community by highlighting outstanding comments found throughout the day by the diarist, and through nominations at made at TopComments at gmail dot com by your fellow Kossacks.
These nominations are subjective, and certainly not complete (as no one can read the complete site on a daily basis!). But we hope they will serve to shine a light where deserved, and to give the reader a good starting point in finding conversation on the site.

I'm sleepy this evening, which means my creative powers are at a bit of an ebb. (I would have said "at a nadir", but I'm too lazy to reach down, pull my dictionary from the bottom of a pile of books, and look to see whether I've used the word properly. Note, I'm not too lazy to type dozens of words about this from the comfort of my chair. It's leaving it that becomes the issue.) Topics don't even bother to flit into my brain and stay out of reach: they're all sacked out in a place where they won't be disturbed or awaken after far too little rest.
These days, six hours a night seems to have become my norm, but it isn't quite enough. And the five hours I got last night—don't ask me why I woke up early, because I can't remember what brought me to wakefulness, if indeed anything did. I can get to bed very late or only mildly so, and I'm awake earlier than I want to be. I've never been good at napping, so that can't be called upon to make me more rested or in tonight's Top Comments diary. Not to mention the fact that if I tried to nap now, this would be the one time that I both managed to fall asleep, and also stayed asleep for so long that I missed the diary deadline and perhaps exceed my typical six hours. Even when my timing is good, it can sometimes be abysmal in other ways. Better to not tempt fate.
I thought to look back five years, since I joined the Top Comments team around then, but it turns out that this was just an ordinary day. My first diary here was five years and thirteen days ago, my third diary five years and a day. This is the first time I've ever written a diary on October 5; I write four diaries in the average October. That diary from October 4, 2006, was the first time I wrote about forcing bulbs for wintertime color; by contrast, I haven't bought a single bulb yet this year. I need to buy some and start planting!

There was but a single comment nomination tonight, so in case the rest of you have forgotten our email address, or that the deadline remains 9:30pm eastern, I'll slip in a little reminder of these facts. That email address is:
TopComments AT gmail DOT com
(change " AT " to "@" and " DOT " to ".")
Anyone can send us great comments. Be sure to include the direct link to a comment—the URL—which is available from that comment's date/time; we need that to find your choice. Please always include your Daily Kos user name in the body of your message, so we can credit you properly. If you send a writeup with the link, we are able to include that, too, though we reserve the right to edit. Today involved a little editing, and one nomination being written from scratch to go with the submitted comment link.
From paintitblue (with a writeup by sardonyx):
A wonderful thread in Kaili Joy Gray's front page post Romney: 'Is this your wife? Do you mind if I put my arm around her like that?' that starts with this comment from kaleidescope, and left my heart replies, and then replies to the reply for a perfect capper.
From sardonyx (your sleepy Wednesday diarist):
In Ellinorianne's diary "Climate Change and the End of Australia", Anne Elk notes the irony of Australia being faced with this situation.
Roadbed Guy looks at certain kinds of spending and does some numbers.
Start at Marcelo Teson's initial entry in this thread, and work your way down to the third comment by WinSmith. (If you short circuit the effect, it isn't nearly as much fun.)
Please add your own comment finds below!
