FOX does not get the OWS movement at all. The lady that was just on FOX said these people are out there carrying signs instead of hitting the pavement for a job. My daughter works a full day five days a week walking dogs. She has a college degree. MANY OF HER FRIENDS ARE IN THE SAME BOAT. Every single person she works with have a college degree, some have a masters. My daughter has participated in the protests. In fact, many, many of the people participating have at least one job, some have two. I am proud of her for standing up for the people in this country who are the 99%.
When 80% of the people in this country only own 7% of the country's wealth and when 400 people have more wealth than 150 million people combined there is something wrong with the picture. When the head CEO of Walmart makes 16,000 an hour and the workers barely make minimum wage there is something wrong. All most people want is a LIVABLE wage so they can buy food, clothing, and have a roof over their head. Those of us that are COMFORTABLE need to pay attention to what is happening in this country to many of our fellow citizens.
What it comes down to is do we want to live in an oligarchy or a liberal democracy (which is what we are supposed to be)? Do we want our politicians to answer to us or to the corporate state? Do we want organizations like ALEC to write the laws or do we, the 99%, want to have some influence over our legislatures? Do we want to let the mainstream media use propaganda to shape our views or do we want to think for ourselves? Do we want to see the OWS movement as a wake up call or do we want to remain silent about the things we need to do that would benefit our society as a whole...not just the few?
Sometimes in history people speak up about the injustices they see and they are persecuted for it. But those people still have the courage to speak out. Maybe they do not succeed in changing things but at least they speak up. Jesus did it. Ghandi did it. MLK did it. THEY SPOKE UP. And that is what these young people are doing...THEY ARE SPEAKING UP. We promised them if they worked hard, stayed in school, made good grades, did internships, they would be able to find a job. We promised them the American dream but what they found out is there isn't an American dream anymore for so many.
Change can be a scary thing but sometimes change is needed. And it takes brave people to stand up and say something just isn't right. These young people stood up and said something isn't working. If we do not all come together and figure out something that will work for all of us we will continue on this path that only benefits the few and may eventually destroy our country. We are the richest country in the world and yet of all the industrialized countries we have the greatest disparity of wealth. Something is wrong with this picture and I for one would like to see something done before it is too late.
