I'm an Occupy supporter, but admit that I haven't done a damn thing to truly support the movement. So here's my contribution:
On Saturday, Nov. 19, I'm trying to organize an "Occupy the Water" movement. If you are a paddler (kayak/canoe) in Oklahoma City, you can join me on the "Oklahoma River" (the North Canadian River in OKC near the I-35 overpass). If you are in other states/cities, you can get this going too.
Waterways with a large public exposure are the ideal, whether they are part of a city greenscape/park, or under a major highway. Think about the potential of several thousand commuters seeing banners/etc from kayaks on the river. How about an "Occupy the Bay" in Oakland (I used to live in San Leandro, my friends).
Paddlers probably wouldn't go overnight, even in shifts, because of safety and visibility issues- but I think it would make a great statement.
For those who don't understand the "paddler" thing- we're not talking powered boats and yachts... if you own one of those, you might not be a 99%-er, and the effect would probably be negative. Paddlers are those who use watercraft powered only by their own arms, such as kayaks and canoes- relatively inexpensive and a great hobby.
What do you think?
