Most of us who blog notice that we can labor for hours and days, and we believe we've created a thing of great beauty, wit and illuminating insight, that will surely be roundly applauded by legions. We hit post and the internet responses with a great, big collective yawn (see LGBT Community Rallies To Save Lovebirds Buddy & Pedro).
And yet, sometimes we'll will just whip something off in a few minutes and BAM! internet sensation. "WTF? People love that?!" I was surprised by the enthusiastic response to my post earlier this week, Clint Eastwood Doesn't Give A F*ck About Gay Marriage. It was very popular here, and elsewhere.
Kossacks also made it better. Many people gave their own suggests of some pretty awesome pieces of advocacy the LGBT community's straight guy allies have made over the years.
So... they were so good, I decided to add to my five examples creating a piece with Eastwood intro and a Top Ten list. And since everyone here had pretty much seen it already, I offered the expanded piece to Huffington Post's Gay Voices vertical, they liked and wanted it and it's now on their front page:
Yay!
So I wanted to say thank you to people who reminded me of or alerted me to other great examples of straight guys stepping up. Did your suggestion make the cut? Check it out here, Straight Guys, Fierce Allies, so I get some hits and they'll be glad they featured me. (That would be the shameless self-promotional plug part of this posts.)
Thanks for the supportive, fun community that has nurtured and influened my voice for years.
