Saturday is my day to share some postive ways for dealing with the stresses of life. Trying to quit smoking is a biggie. I hope that with this yoga series someone can benefit from my methods for dealing with life's challenges in a positive way. Let me know you were here=).
I was with a friend of mine last Thursday evening. She smokes quit a bit. In fact, as soon as we got in her car, her window was down and she smoked cigarettes 1,2,3....
What really surprised me was that I felt sick after a while. My lungs burned and I started coughing. I didn't want to hurt her feelings but, wow, my head felt weird. Granted I have a really good sense of smell that comes in handy during my nursing clinicals, and I have not smoked in over 20 years. I even felt crappy for most of Friday with my coughing. I imagine not being able to take those deep cleansing breaths that help me calm down and think.
Anyway, here goes our Saturday morning ritual. Let's breathe in and out. Sit up straight. Roll your neck. Relax those shoulders and flex your hands. Point and flex your feet. Stand up and stretch. Breathe dammit! I meant, namaste.

Now let's hold our hand in this mudra for our lungs. The Linga mudra is used as a remedy for the lungs, guarding against colds and cold weather. Strenghens immune system.
How to form the Linga mudra: Interlace fingers of both hands, extending one thumb upwards, encircle extended thumb with the index finger and thumb of your other hand.
Now let's do the Prana Mudra...
The Prana mudra can be used whenever you feel drained or need an extra boost of energy. Good to use in the morning to awaken and fully embrace the new day.
How to form the Prana mudra: Thumb, ring, and pinky are touching. Index and middle finger are extended.
If you sit and meditate everyday at your computer for 5 minutes, this doesn't mean having your hands on the mouse, you will notice a calmness. Meditation is fantastic for lowering blood pressure, relieving stress, headaches, blah, blah, blah..... Point is, you can do this everyday when you sit at your computer. Just take 5 minutes for you.

And please drink 8 big glasses or 2 liters of water today, that doesn't include soda.....
