I'll keep this short.
The research is very clear -- health care is the one area of social policy that it is best not to turn over to the market and private sector. Education, transport -- even water -- research is more mixed.
So, here's what I'm wondering, if the Republicans were willing to "trade" something for single payer, what would you give up?
I'd start with Amtrak -- I don't think there's any reason the government can't own the rails, but contract out the operations. (Yes, I realize this would lead to some small towns losing train service in the middle of the country).
Anyway, what would you be willing to allow to be privatized in order to gain government health care for all?
(And, yes, I know it's not this simple, but thought exercises are always fun...and sometimes productive.)
