This is only the beginning. It is clear that the right to assembly, along with freedom of speech, is a right that must be defended. It is about assembling and re-assembling over and over again to claim and enforce the political heritage that is rightly ours.
This isn't the end of democratic rule in America. This is perhaps the beginning of renewal of democratic rule in America.
Those claiming it is no longer the land of the free perhaps have missed the labor movement in this country that stretches back almost to the birth of our nation. We have had to fight for the enforcement of our rights as a free people, as a people not willing to be have our labor exploited, as long ago as the early 1800's.
If you brought here as a slave your battle for freedom began before the birth of our country.
None of these things will be handed to us by a 1% that has waxed and waned with power for over a century here. Robber barons? Yes. We've seen all of this before.
The stakes are much higher though with environmental degradation reaching alarming levels, with wars capable of being fought, and being fought with unmanned drones.
The Occupy Movement has emboldened those who believe that in order to have freedoms, they must be practiced, openly, and without fear.
Roll up your sleeves, 'cause this is only beginning.
