This is liberally stolen from the proposed Washington State 46th Legislative District Democratic Caucus Platform as of April 22, 2006:
Protecting human rights and individual freedoms
Living-wage jobs and fairness in tax policy
Health care for all
Fighting poverty and providing a safety net for those in need
Quality public education
Protecting the environment for future generations
Seeking peace, and using force only when necessary
Fiscal responsibility and competence in government
Integrity, openness and accountability in government
Unfortunately, I do not know who the individual authors of this document were and cannot name them but these are values universally held by persons of integrity.
Five years and counting -- and Obama -- and a filibustering Senate -- and Grover Norquist and the feckless Eric Holder -- and Goldman Sachs and Wall Street and Citibank and Wells Fargo and Bank of America and JP Morgan Chase and AIG and UBS -- and Wellpoint and CIGNA and AETNA and Humana and United Healthcare -- and Citizens United and the Koch Brothers and Karl Rove and James Bopp, Jr., and the SCOTUS infamous five and Paul Singer -- and Raytheon and General Electric and General Dynamics and Northrup Grumman and Lockheed Martin and Boeing and Blackwater and Xe and fraud and misconduct and bribery and lobbying and no accountability anywhere to be seen -- Rupert Murdoch and Comcast and a nonexistent Fourth Estate and the Bill of Rights in the U.S. Constitution in tatters and Habeas Corpus and Posse Comitatus nowhere in sight.
But, we've got Occupy Wall Street and Everywhere and raggedy taggedy tents and blankets and a game called the 99ers Vs. the Big One Percent and re-energized labor unions, even though pepper spray and teargas and brute force and a near police state and a corporate-complicit media impede our vision and the movement of the 99 percent.
And, hope, maybe.
But we ain't getting any from Obama.
Hope. And the liberal values from 2006. We've got to hang on. And we still have the Internet and Social Networking and Tweeting and stuff.
The party of the people, devoted to justice and opportunity for all.
Will the Democratic Party, the DNC, find its way back to those values?
