There's some good news this week in the fight to keep the U.S. on the trajectory of expanding, rather than restricting, the vote. The good news is that the fight is now fully engaged. Let's start where the immediate battle is: Maine.
Protect Maine Votes secured the endorsement of Maine's well-respected and loved former Sen. George Mitchell in the Yes on 1 campaign to restore same-day voter registration to their state. The polling shows that the referendum is very close. Making it more complicated is a major influx of late cash to the opposition, funding that is in fact so late it's in violation of Maine's election laws.
The effort of the opposition has been to deceive and confuse Maine voters into voting "no" when they mean to vote in support of the referendum. You can pitch in just $5 and help Protect Maine Votes get the word out to Maine voters on how to restore the same-day voter registration they've had for 40 years.
