Amidst all of the second guessing and rationalizing over last night's disastrous (for them) election results, the gang at Red State dot com does seem to agree on one thing -- Herman Cain is a walking disaster.
In a long thread entitled It's Official: Herman Cain Has a Problem, the "Friends of Erik Erickson" weigh in with a wide range of reasons why Good Old Herman is the human equivalent of a political zombie:
On Cain's decision to base his defense around a full-scale attack on his accuser's personal life:
Herman, if this is the route you are taking, under direction of Mark Block who you should have fired when these allegations first broke, you are heading down the wrong path. Sheding (sic) light on someone else’s financial problems and not even bothering to deny the allegations is a fool’s path.
Given the mindset of the geniuses on his campaign (including Cain), there doesn’t appear to be even a smidgen of class in the whole lot of them. He’s done, he’s finished, it is over – THANK GOD that we know now!
right now Cain is on national TV claiming how he has been aggrieved by these women. But who led into the presser? Non other than Lin Wood, a high dollar defense lawyer from Atlanta with a very interesting record....snip
So Herman, he’s done himself some lawyering up and has hired one of the most well known legal attack dogs in the nation. Why has Cain done this? Shouldn’t we expect Cain himself, and not his legal pit bull, to address this? If Cain become president, and he is attacked by Congress, will we hear from his lawyer, or him?
That’s one serious display of hackitude right there (to be clear, I’m talking about the Cain campaign flack’s PR spin on this, not your post).
Whether the woman accusing Mr Cain is a personal wreck is really quite irrelevant to the allegations. The party affiliation of her legal counsel is similarly irrelevant. If this is the tack that Herman Cain is taking, then he will lose and deserves to lose.
On his truthfulness:
right now he is being asked questions by the press and Cain is blinking so fast that he looks like he is sending out Morse Code.
What’s with the “I then ‘recall’?” Is that a basis for a later claim of “my memory was not fully aware of XXX?”
I am sick of it to but if we could get to the truth we could put it behind us!
Too many women, two pay-outs, too many stories changing, too much shuffling, too LITTLE family standing by his side!
This week we have two more people and one has come out. Regardless of how he tries to demean her she is a real person and what she is saying is way worse than” you are about the same height as my wife”.
So we have a pattern and a failed press conference; he convinced no one, his wife and family were not there. Last week our own talk radio dudes were defending him; this week he is looking indefensible. Plus heard another one is willing to talk.
Last week he was collecting pots of money, his numbers were holding; now, well, he actually looks guilty. So think his numbers will fall and he will have to get out of the way. All I ever wanted is the truth. These were not the real reasons I do not want him; I am sure you know what they are.
On media coverage -- CNN Vs. Fox:
I cannot believe I am watching CNN.
No! maybe I can…Fox is in the turlet and Erick said that with Cain’s family not being there, the presser did not really put all to bed.
who knew Fox would go crazy?
Actually CNN has a unique opportunity right this minute. With Fox in the tank for Romney CNN could pull a fast one and become the place to be. I think they would need an 8:00 conservative to be opposite Hannity and work on a few of the others but hey, I will watch the truth! Won’t you?
With this kind of sentiment coming from the heart of the right wing's base, it seems that overall opinions on Herm Cain and his suitability as a Presidential candidate are shifting. It will be interesting to see whether those shifts are reflected in upcoming polling.
In the meantime, this whole thing has to be absolutely maddening to the other GOP candidates and to the party (whatever the GOP is these days.) This whole story is sucking all the air out of the room...dominating the media with negative news about Republican candidates and making it difficult for competitors to gain any traction as the clock steadily clicks down towards the first primaries in two months.
