We CAN effect change, here at Daily KOS, Collectively, we can make a difference.
In just a short time we have had some major wins.
Make no mistake; Bank of America had to retreat with their debt card fees, due to people like us on Daily Kos and at Occupy shaming them into it.
Months ago, the GOP tape was stuck on deficits, debt, and austerity.
Today, citizens are talking about income inequality, fairness in taxation, and poverty.
The president is fighting back, and talking on our turf with a renewed sense of vigor and righteousness.
Income inequality is a pernicious divider. Considerable Income inequality is a civil rights issue. Coincidence isn't an explanation for why most poor people, just happened to be minorities in the USA. Now, the majority of all American citizens white/black it doesn’t matter- are poor, or near poor. The color that really matters, that has almost always mattered is green or gold. I don't mean to say that cultural racism doesn't exist- it most certainly does, but, if there is something than can unite us all- it is economic fairness. A fair wage, for a hard day's labor.
The median wage of over half of all working Americans is under twenty seven thousand dollars.
It’s a struggle to live off such a small amount, yet half of the country does it. Many of these working citizens can’t afford health coverage, heck, they can barely afford the rent and the grocery bill.
Some other victories.
Take the SOPA, Protect IP garbage that was slated for an easy passage- that is, before we got involved.
Expressing our anger and outrage at police brutality, taking mayors to task for their heavy handed tactics at peaceful protests has shamed and exposed many into the sunlight of exposure.
I would like to think we can all take a little credit for reshaping the narrative on all of these issues.
But, we aren’t done yet.
Medicare
I believe we can collectively make poiltifact change their tune on their newest lie. They are telling the world that republicans did not vote to end Medicare But, in truth -Republicans did vote to end Medicare. The simple truth is- republicans voted to end Medicare. It isn’t a lie to tell it like it is.
as Nailbanger ingeniously said
"They want to end medicare then start something different called medicare."
poiltifact had to resort to semantics, technicalities, and wordplay just to forcefully mold this into their narrow definition of the lie that they needed to create. Why did they have to fit this round peg into that square hole, in order to display balance, and to give some semblance of truth on the GOP side.
Poiltifact has previously been accused of democratic bias for one reason; they called out more republicans on lies than they did for the democrats. In order to correct this perceived bias they had to find minor inconsistencies in order to grade more democrats on lies. But, the real reason why they called out more republicans on lies, wasn’t because of a Left wing bias- they did it because the republicans lied way more than the democrats did! Duh!
If we apply pressure i believe we can change this eggergious lie that politfact is sullying democrats with.
Here's what I have already done, and what I think we can do in order to get results:
Email politfact to voice your disgust, write to http://www.factcheck.org/ to see if they will go in and fact check politfact.
If we vow to forgo visiting politfact and instead direct traffic to factcheck- it will hit them where it counts- the wallet!
