A friend with the Occupy Movement here in Orange County send me a video last night called "The Vote Heard Round the World." It depicts, in a professional and engaging way, the LA City Council's unanimous vote to endorse the Move to Amend amendment on corporate personhood -- the first time a major city has done so.
I saw it this morning and said "hmm, that's cool, that should be on Daily Kos."
Before I post something though, I like to check (a hangover from the old "already diaried, please delete" days) to see if it's already up. And lo and behold, it was posted here late last night.
It was posted by the guy who donated his time to edit the video!
Four comments and three recs (including mine) so far.
Some of the comments grouse about LA in the wake of the eviction of Occupy LA, but let me remind you of this distinction: the City Council is the body that invited Occupy LA into the Park. It was the Mayor's office (and other executive agencies) that got rid of it. So these people you see speaking -- they're the unequivocal good guys.
Other people reported LA's vote here first (read here and here) and with these links I give them their share of recognition.
But putting together a snappy video like this, where the editing was the production -- that's going beyond the usual call of activist duty.
I'd like to see us put the diary that I linked above onto the Rec List, therefore, as a way of thanking Seth of SethFilms for donating his time on this video (and reminding people that this sort of activist pays off) -- and to help his effort to bring more attention to this newborn effort to Move to Amend -- about which I expect we'll see much more in 2012. (Besides, even though I don't know him, I suspect that it would be fun to blow his mind.)
