(v1)
Two things that old Newt hates
Somebody else's original sin
And hippies
Three things his plans would kill
A poor kid's pride, the safety net, and Jesus

Below the squiggly is an example of a song that's a work in progress. It's by jabney (that's me) and there's a lot of verbiage that needs to be trimmed. So please read and comment if you'd like.

(v1)
Two things that old Newt hates
Somebody else's original sin
And hippies
Three things his plans would kill
A poor kid's pride, the safety net, and Jesus
(rise)
Maybe you think it sounds absurd
'Cause Newt never used the specific words
But if you read the text of the Apostle's Creed
Then Jesus made the ganga
The primo marijuana kingpin
Hallelujah to the Seed
And Newt said he wanted to kill 'em
Execute 'em 'til they're dead
So don't blame me when I point out
The cold hard ramifications
Of where his silly extreme speech actually led
(chorus)
He's so in love with the quotes that call him a genius
So damned good at digging up wedges
And driving those wedges between us
Seems like he'll say anything enough of us want
If he thinks what he's sayin' will please us
But sometimes he talks himself in a corner
Like Newt's plan to wind up killing Jesus
(v2)
Two things the Bible says
Seed bearing herbage is not called a sin
But mean is
Three things the scripture's bless
A poor man's coat, the leaves that heal, and Jesus
(rise)
Maybe you think it sounds absurd
'Cause Newt never used the specific words
But if you read the text of the Apostle's Creed
Then Jesus made the ganga
The primo marijuana kingpin
Hallelujah to the Seed
And Newt said he wanted to kill 'em
Execute 'em 'til they're dead
So don't blame me when I point out
The cold hard ramifications
Of where his silly extreme speech actually led
(chorus)
He's so in love with the quotes that call him a genius
So damned good at digging up wedges
And driving those wedges between us
Seems like he'll say anything enough of us want
If he thinks what he's sayin' will please us
But sometimes he talks himself in a corner
Like Newt's plan to wind up killing Jesus
(bridge)
Maybe Newt is totally sure the second coming is pro-GOP
Where the money lenders are highly exalted in the temple
Gee, that would make things really simple
Or maybe Newt don't really believe
Half the things his voters believe
Like Jesus is coming again
The original green-leaf kingpin
(refrain)
He's a tough talkin' rootin' tootin'
Tough talkin' persecutin'
Tough talkin' crucifyin' man
He owns the brand
Tough talkin' crucifyin' man
...
I'm not trying for the next, "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" here, i.e. it needs editing. For example, the refrain may wind up being the chorus, and what is now called the chorus may wind up as bridge2 or eliminated. For a lot of lyricists, editing is tough because it means throwing away one's own words. It helps if you have had the experience of heavily pruning a tree or a shrub and seeing it grow back prettier than ever the next spring. But even the most experienced of pruners must feel a little twinge when the branches start to fall.
As for the content, I'll let the lyrics do the talking up in this section. But I'll be happy to discuss in the comments below.
