Union busting in the first degree announced yesterday in Atlantic City. Perpetrator; Kevin DeSanctis, CEO; Revel Resort and Spa: Atlantic City's (by the shore) newest shell game. Grand opening early 2012. Lot's of time to coordinate and plan a mass protest in front of this sham casino.
Please visit my facebook note for more details, or continue reading this diary. Or go to the Atlantic City press on-line and see/read hundreds of outraged, thoughtful citizens who lined up by the droves and commented below that article.
In case you didn't bother using the first link in intro, here's the "letter to the editor" I sent this morning to the Press of Atlantic City (since received with a reply back saying, please re-submit later, because, unfortunately I had another letter printed within the last month, on Nov. 24th. That's OK, no problem, we'll rally the troops from here @ the Daily Kos .... I hope).
I and a lot of other locals (judging by massive response to the press on-line edition) was stunned to read on Tuesday that the Revel, a "too large to fail" enterprise that rec'd a tax payer bailout like the nasty Investment bankers on Wall Street, is not behaving any better, once they (the Revel) got the money. In lower Manhattan you have unrepentant CEO's rewarding themselves with huge bonuses, and in S. Jersey we have Revel CEO Kevin DeSanctis inscrutably announcing, before it ever opens, that his casino (another "entity" like the Investment Banks- heavily monitored by the government -supposedly) "plans to restrict the number of years its table games dealers, cocktail servers, bartenders and other frontline employees may work in their jobs." That's the CEO, on record, basically thumbing his nose at working men and women in this region.
But the final irony for me is DeSanctis describing the union busting procedure as "term limits," not appreciating that one of the local politicians supporting his "bail out" was one Frank LoBiondo, who rode a Gingrich led wave into Congress in 1994 promising to serve only six terms. LoBiondo who was for bailing out the Revel, was against saving General Motors and Chrysler, compounding hypocrisy on top of hypocrisy. LoBiondo, who I have a special dislike for and who is up for re-election next November, was not alone last February when the Revel bailout was announced. Governor Christie due to run again in 2013 was front and center, flanked by Assemblyman Amodeo (2013), County Executive Levinson (2015) and Jim Whelan (2015). These good old boys need to explain themselves or get thrown out of office.
Was the letter any good, and what about an "occupy" movement in front of the casino when it opens, and how's my grammar? I've had trouble with that in the past. Should the letter start out "Myself and a lot of others" or is "I and a lot of others..." correct? Or is there a more grammatical opening? Who CARES, and why am I asking for tutoring .... THERE'S A EMERGENCY ON THE BOARDWALK IN ATLANTIC CITY, YEA!!!! (this dumb ass CEO stepped in it, I think)
