Equanimity is hard to come by in times of uncertainty. The mind can be the greatest torture chamber ever created:
Tim Eagan, Subconscious Comics
Yes, I haz a worry over how something out of our control is going to turn out. The twists and turns of events are getting kinda exhausting and today the Powers That Be put off resolution until after the first of the year. I was reminded of the parable of the Taoist farmer (below the orange gnocchi-doodle) and realized, who knows? This might just be to our advantage. Meanwhile I reach for equanimity through meditation, hot baths, finding the humor in things, practicing mindfulness and cognitive approaches to not taking the gymnastic gyrations of my mind too seriously. "We'll see" how it all turns out....
So, What do you do to quiet your crazy mind?

The Tale of the Taoist farmer
There once was a poor Taoist farmer who owned only one horse, a very fine mare who ran off one day, leaving him without a horse to help bring in the harvest.
"What terrible luck!" the farmer's neighbors sighed.
"We'll see," is all he replied.
A week later the mare returned...bringing with her a young, healthy stallion.
"What great luck!" the farmer's neighbors exulted.
"We'll see," is all he replied.
The farmer's strapping son attempted to ride the stallion but he was quickly bucked off and broke his leg, rendering him incapable of helping the farmer with his harvest.
"What terrible luck!" the neighbors bemoaned.
"We'll see," is all he replied.
A week later the army came through the village, conscripting and taking away all the eligible young men in the village, except for the farmer's son with his broken leg.
"What great luck!" the farmer's neighbors cried.
"We'll see," is all he replied.....

from KelleyRN2:
I love this! high uintas on the unforeseen benefit of subscription giving:
What this gift giving has done is to help heal our self inflicted wounds from too many pie fights and too much rage addiction. Disagreements are part of politics, but dkos is more than just politics. We are truly a community that cares and we have to be reminded about that sometimes. This is doing that.

In belinda ridgewood's Cranky Users post about gift subscriptions, sdf doesn't want to miss the perqs that come with a lifetime subscription.
In kos' front page post Finally leaving Iraq, there were two great comments. First ColoTim damns the Bush Administration and then BentLiberal posts a photo-laden comment that could be its own diary post.
From bronte17:
Pluto had an insightful comment this evening pertaining to the techniques and consequences of imperialism.
... We are not familiar with the phenomenon here because the United States represents a mere fly-spec of time across the arc of history -- and we have no actual experience with the enduring consequences of creating a militarized nation.
from cfk:
Solarian's comment in her diary WI GOP: The law we passed is bad for us, and *surprise unconstitutional tops off her point with this:
As a comparison I'd go with: They're making salting your driveway a felony because they can't sue you for falling over after they spent the night pouring water onto it. But it might just be me.
and from your ever-hopeful poster smileycreek:
In noise of rain's diary Recall Walker: And the Number Is.... jpmassar put the number of signatures gathered into unique perspective:
You guys and gals in Wisconsin have been collecting signatures at the rate of one every five seconds! Keep it going!
