TCF National Bank stands for Twin Cities Bank.
This is a bank out of the Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota area. It operates in the following states: Minnesota, Illinois, Michigan, Colorado, Wisconsin, Indiana, Arizona and South Dakota.
When I had a TCF account in Minneapolis, it was for a very HOT minute and I mean a minute, this bank was practicing predatory banking back then but now they are blatant and out of order.
TCF Bank is a predatory bank which will fee you to death. How? Well, they will fee you so hard that you either PAY these predatory fees or subject to have your name on chexsytems and they will do it in a heart beat.
TCF Bank took bailout money and don't give a damn about its customers.

When I was in college one thing I never had to encounter was "banks on the campus" or "innudated with credit card applications". This is major problem with many young people who are on tight budgets and just trying to graduate from these financial institutions. Which should question these institutions allowing these banks on campus and should be outraged what TCF is legally doing to its students. Moving on.
Besides my own bad experience with Bank of America, my sister who does live in St. Paul, MN had a doozy with TCF Bank. My niece is working on her graduate degree in Canada and had a free checking account with TCF Bank. Before leaving she put my sister on her account, so when she needed money it was convenient for my sister to just deposit money into her daughter's account. Well, here we go. TCF Bank claims that they sent a letter to everyone disbanding the free checking and switched millions of accounts over to fee checking. Well, many folk don't watch their bank accounts like hawks, and enter my niece. She gets gas for her car and low and behold the credit went through along with a fee. What fee? Well, the new TCF Bank fee of 28.00 a day, for every day your account is negative. TCF Bank stopped the one time charge of 35.00 for an overdraft and instituted the 28.00 a day fee. Highway robbery you say, damn right. My sister opens the mail from TCF and my niece's account is like over 150.00 in overdraft charges. Of course, between the two they got down to the bottom line and it was this, TCF Bank NEVER sent anything to their home notifying them of the change in free checking or this 28.00 a day fee.
What happened next? My sister stormed over to TCF Bank and went off on the branch manager, Southside Chicago Style. By the time this was over, my sister had the fees reversed and closed the account. In retrospect, she said that she could have easily been removed from the bank, but other customers totally agreed with her and they were vocal, too. Lastly, and this had me laughing like "you gotta be kiddin' me", my sister stated that the branch manager had the nerve to state that many customers like the 28.00 a day fee. Are you kidding me? When you don't get paid until next week and your account is in the negative, who in their right mind like getting dinged 28.00 a day!!! TCF BANK is legally stealing money from millions of customers. This is predatory banking at its worst.
TCF Bank is all over Chicagoland with many banks in Jewel Grocery Stores. I am sure anyone who lives in the Chicagoland area has had the "pressure talk" from the TCF staff wanting you to open up an account, while you are trying to get to the bread section. No, I am not kidding here. The reason being that TCF only cares about opening accounts, this is the metric for their employees but customer care or service, not much.
Folks, if this is not an eye opener, then you need some eye drops. This is ghetto style, poor man style banking at its worse. They practically HI-JACK you like the pay day cash scam. Once they get you in the bind of the 28.00 a day fee, you either pay up or to chexsytems you go. We know once you are on chexsystems it can be hard to open up another checking account anywhere. And this is where TCF Bank gets its customers, "the you won't have anywhere to go syndrome, unless you pay up." Sad, but true.
Here are some complaints about TCF Bank from its own current and former employees:
-Part time work is usually average of 35 hours/week, which seems like too much for a student to handle.
-Branch manager was hardly ever at the actual branch
-Assistant managers tend to pass down their job responsibilities to tellers
-Forces aggressiveness when selling
-If working in a Jewel location, tellers must walk around the store for a minimum of 1 hour a day to sell accounts to Jewel customers. Really, who wants to open a bank account when they are in the middle of grocery shopping?
-Sales goals are hardly possible.
-Training does not coincide with all job responsibilities.
TCF Bank puts pressure on its tellers/sales associates to do one thing, OPEN ACCOUNTS. If they don't make their goal, they are easily fired. Customer service with this organization is at the bottom of the barrel, it is about opening accounts to manipulate BANK FEES to its customers.
And read some complaints about TCF Bank from customers, believe me there are tons all over the internet.
Bottom line, if you have not moved your money, please do so. These banks will do anything to gouge the customer. Why should you remain with an institution that does not care about your health, that is your financial health?
