While House Republicans
finally agreed that raising taxes on 160 million Americans was a bad idea—for at least two months anyway—the conservative wingnuttia was already whining about being tricked. From the
Washington Post's Charles Krauthammer:
The Democrats set a trap and the Republicans walked right into it. By rejecting an ostensibly bipartisan “compromise,” the Republican House was portrayed as obstructionist and, even worse, heartless — willing to raise taxes on the middle class while resolutely opposing any tax increases on the rich.
Really, Chuck? It was only an "ostensibly bipartisan" bill? The one that passed in the Senate by a margin of 89-10, with 39 Republican votes? Yeah, those Democrats are tricky.
