We've been entertained this fall by the clown show cum horrible traffic accident that has been the Republican primary field. Events today have proved that it was all a sham.
None of them except Romney ever wanted to be President.
It was to be Romney all along.
Bachmann, et al, were only in it because they were recruited to drive Romney enough to the right to make him semi palatable to Republican voters. Newt was only in it for the money. As Rachel has pointed out, he had reached the point in his scams where he actually had to do the thing instead of talk about it. Now he can say he did the thing and continue to make money. Huntsman was recruited, because he's "next in line" should Romney not win, Huntsman would be the first 2016 candidate, and the probable "next in line". Perry was recruited to eliminate him from serious contention.
That leaves Ron Paul. Only he is in it to win it. If he does very well in the primaries but yet loses to Romney, he could mount a third party run.
But all the fun we've had has been for nothing. It's all been a show. An act. A sham.
As usual, by Super Tuesday, we'll know.
It must be that way. The billionaires won't tolerate constant attack ads against the other candidates. They want to spend all next year saturating the airwaves with nothing but anti Obama ads. And they have already started airing them. Even on MSNBC.
Now I could be wrong, and I could be misunderestimating the Republican Primary Voter, but I fear that I will be proved right. One by one they will drop out, leaving Romney with a clear path to the nomination.
One only hopes that the Obama Machine, which has been preparing for Romney for months, is ready to go the second he becomes the de facto nominee.
