Watching Rachel Maddow always lead me to some sort of reflection. Tonight one of her topics was the political hot potato of celebrating the end of the Iraq War while we are still fighting another war. She delved into the fact that New york City would like to throw a ticker tape Parade as they are known to do. But outright celebration seems somewhat wrong. What i see as a greater wrong is not showing appreciation to yet another group of soldiers coming home. No matter your politics on this ( I am a pacifist at heart so call me Dovey) I have a thought. What if we had a Moment of Silence Parade. Yes instead of streaming paper and loud cheers. How about in the shadow of the 9/11 Memorial Americans stood on the curb side just saluting or with heads bowed in respect for these fine young men and women??? This idea may just be a fantasy as the only person I am aware of making thousands of New Yorkers be silent was Curt Schilling back in 2004 !
