A wintry good morning from the high desert as we wake to snow on the ground. Looks like maybe 8 inches, but I haven't ventured out yet for a more precise measurement. The weather people have been talking this storm up all week, trying to figure out what it was going to do. "...wonderfully complex..." was one comment from the meteorologists as they tried to grasp the full implications of multiple influences at work. This is part of the storm that smashed LA with monster winds.
Worse is to come, as the second and third "wave" of storm passes by. Sunday night's low is predicted at low single-digits, with significant wind chills on top of that, and more snow. This morning it's a balmy 28 degrees. Tuesday it was 76 degrees.
An early winter storm, which we haven't seen for a while, and it is delivering a big load of snow to the high country where we keep our summer irrigation water stashed, frozen. This is un-complicatedly good.
Meanwhile, there is the delight of watching critters experience snow for the first time, four semi-feral barn kitties and the puppy. It's just getting light enough, so we'll go outside for a bit to see how everyone is doing. Hopefully there will be nothing to repair, as we have been "hardening" our infrastructure to withstand these conditions. The pipes DID NOT freeze when it hit 16 below zero last year.
